About this file
This file is an email correspondence from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) to Mr. Krueger regarding permitting requirements for a boat launch repair project on Lake Waubesa at McConnell Street in the Town of Dunn, Dane County, Wisconsin. The email addresses the repair and upgrade of an existing boat launch facility to meet current Wisconsin DNR minimum standards. The WDNR representative, Wendy Peich, clarifies that the boat launch does not appear to have been previously permitted and will require permitting under Chapter 30 general permit guidelines. The project must meet all eligibility criteria, including verification that the launch will not be located in an area of special natural resource interest or within a public rights feature. Ms. Peich provides guidance that flood-damaged areas may begin restoration activities while the permit process is underway, allowing the contractor to commence repairs before the permit is officially issued, provided that the WDNR has been notified with general design and timeframe information.
The email confirms that if the boat launch design does not meet general permit criteria, an individual permit application may be required as an alternative. The WDNR representative encourages the project applicant to review the provided general permit documentation and contact her with questions. The correspondence establishes that the awarded contractor for the Town of Dunn's boat launch repair project will be responsible for obtaining all necessary permits. No specific pricing, funding amounts, or contract award information is contained in this email; it serves primarily as technical guidance from the regulatory agency regarding permitting procedures and eligibility requirements for the proposed project.

Hi Mr. Krueger!
I reviewed the location of the boat launch. It does not appear to have been previously permitted, is that correct?
If not, the repair will need to be permitted under a chapter 30 general permit. I have attached it for your reference.

The boat landing will need to meet all the eligibility criteria. I verified that it will not be in an area of special natural resource interest and that it will not be placed within a public rights feature.
If the design will not meet the general permit criteria, an individual permit application may need to be submitted, but let’s start with you taking a look at the general permit. You can give me a call with any questions you may have.
Additionally, flood damaged areas can begin restoration while the permit process is taking place. This means that you may begin repair of the launch before you permit is issued so long as you have notified me and provided me with general design and timeframe information. Again, we can discuss further if need be.
Let me know if you have further questions or need further assistance!!!
Stay warm!
Wendy
