Containment System, Optional Transport / Storage Trailer, and Optional Water System.
1. General: This specification is intended to cover a diesel powered portable asphalt reclaiming / trenching machine that mounts to the front bucket of a loader. The physical dimensions of machine shall allow the machine to fit standard loader buckets without the sides or top of the bucket hitting the machine.
2. Engine: Water-cooled, “Cummins” brand six-cylinder Tier 3 EPA compliant, to a water-cooled, 6.7liter diesel developing no less than 260 hp at rated RPM and generating 730 foot-pounds of torque. Shall be equipped with 12-volt electric system including starter, battery, and an alternator. Batteries shall be maintenance free with threaded posts and shall provide no less than 2000 total cold cranking amps at 0 degrees F. Alternator shall produce 14 volts and 95 amps. The engine shall have manufacturer approved fuel and oil filters, approved type air cleaner that consists to a two-element filter system, and an adequate exhaust system. Fuel tank shall have a capacity of no less than 50 U.S. Gallons. Cooling system shall be protected to -
20 F with ethylene glycol type antifreeze in compliance with engine manufacturer’s specifications.
3. Engine Instrument Panel: Shall be a wired remote type, which is placed in the cab of the loader to allow the loader operator to monitor engine functions without leaving the cab. Shall include engine emergency stop (E-Stop) control, clutch disengage and engine idle down switch and a digitally controlled multifunction display panel that can selectively indicate, at a minimum; fuel level, engine hours, percent engine load, engine oil pressure, system voltage, and engine coolant temperature.
4. Control Panel: Shall be equipped with an operator control panel located on the belt cage side of machine. This allows machine operator to control depth of cut and throttle function on curb side of machine away from traffic. A key switch to control engine start, run and shut off and controls for clutch on/off, and water on/off will also be mounted on this panel as well as a maintenance hatch open/close control and an emergency stop (E-Stop) switch.
5. Z Pro Heavy Duty Cutter Head: Shall be equipped with Z Pro Cutter head and shall be securely attached to the machine’s frame and enclosed by heavy-duty cowling. Maximum cutting depth shall be approximately 12” (Twelve Inches). Shall have a maximum cutting width of 72” (seventy-two Inches). Shall have a minimum of 150 snap-in bits that snap into a locator block. The bit holders shall be welded securely to 1” base that is welded securely to the skin of the cutter head. The cutter head and housing shall be designed so that only pulverized materials leave the drum assembly.
6. Cutter Head Drive: Power shall be transmitted from the engine to the cutter head through a power take-off and V-belts to a Fairfield heavy duty planetary reduction gearbox at the cutter head. Drive belt tension shall be regulated by the use of an idler wheel and an air bag tensioner. Proper pressure shall be monitored by a gauge mounted on the machine frame and visible to the operator on the ground.
7. Active Hydraulic System: The machine shall be equipped with a hydraulic system consisting of a hydraulic gear pump that is engine powered by an auxiliary drive adapter, a reservoir, pressure side filter, hydraulic manifold with valves, lines and two cylinders to actuate and control depth of cut. All hydraulic fittings shall be leak free and o-ring face seal or o-ring boss design. Hydraulic fluid shall be dyed red to distinguish it from other engine fluids. The reservoir shall hold at least four U.S.
gallons of hydraulic fluid.
8. Mounting: Unit shall be designed and recommended by the manufacturer to mount to the widest range of host vehicles with the front bucket of a loader equipped with a minimum 3 cubic yard bucket. Mounting system shall allow the loader to load, unload and operate the reclaiming / trenching machine. Mounting of the machine shall not require the removal of the bucket nor shall it require the use of a quick connect, quick connect hooks or direct attachment pins.
9. Hydraulic Bucket Clamps: Unit shall be equipped with a hydraulic bucket clamping and chain tensioner system to secure the unit to the bucket of the host vehicle. This bucket clamping system will be actuated by the active hydraulic system. System will maintain a minimum pressure of 1500 psi. The system will have pressure relief valve to safeguard against over pressurizing the system.
10. Cutter Head Service Access Hatch: Unit shall be equipped with a powered hydraulic system that will lift an access hatch to expose the cutter head for service and clamp down during operation. This system will be independent of the active hydraulic system and will operate without the diesel engine running.
11. Weight: Reclaiming / trenching machine (without optional trailer, without optional detachable enhanced containment system, and without optional water system) shall have an approximate dry weight of 9,700 pounds.
12. Additional Equipment: Tools for changing cutter bits and a supply of five extra blocks and twenty-five cutter bits shall be provided. Two bucket retention chains equipped with grab hooks and slip locks shall be included.
13. Wireless Remote Control: The unit shall have a wireless remote control consisting of a receiver and hand held transmitter that will be able to control engine speed, depth of cut, clutch on/off, and water on/off and will also be able to shut off the engine from a distance of fifty feet.
14. Color: Unit frame shall be powder coated with factory standard colors. Other colors can be provided upon customer request. Shall include manufacturer’s standard warning, safety, and instructional decals. Shall have identification and serial number decals.
15. Warranty: Units purchased under this specification shall be warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of not less than one year from date of delivery with unlimited hours of use. Customer will have direct and immediate access to factory technical experts for items thought to be defective.
Items will then be either repaired, replaced or referred to an in-state local service center under direction of factory technicians.
16. Training: Manufacturer shall furnish qualified personnel to instruct operators and service technicians on operation and maintenance of units purchased under this specification. Up to four hours of training in the correct use and maintenance of the unit will be given at time of delivery. Manufacturer shall furnish one (1) copy of the owner’s manual and one (1) copy of the operator’s manual at time of delivery.
17. Manufacturer bidder shall maintain a representative inventory of replacement parts and a service facility for servicing equipment.
Options:
18. Optional Detachable Enhanced Containment System: As an option, the unit shall be equipped with a detachable containment system or “grind box” that shall allow for a more consistently finer, more uniform pulverization of shallow or cracked asphalt, chip seal or other wear surfaces. Such containment system shall have an adjustable rear baffle that allows for coarser or finer grades of material to be attained. The containment system shall be easily attached to or detached from the reclaiming / trenching machine and shall be transported along with the reclaiming / trenching machine on the transport trailer. With the containment system attached, the machine shall allow for a cutting depth of 4”.
19. Optional Custom Transport / Storage Trailer: As an option, the Unit shall include its own custom transport trailer towable by a one and one-half ton pickup truck or greater. Customer trailer shall allow the machine to transport inset into trailer with a lower center of gravity. Shall include a secured tool box and serve as a safe working platform for field maintenance. Shall be a heavy-duty (16,000 lb) tandem axle trailer specifically designed by the manufacturer for transporting the reclaiming / trenching machine. Furnished frame shall be constructed of steel channel; rectangular steel tubing or I beam with all welded construction. Shall have steel wheels.
