About this file
This document is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) for the M240L Machine Gun, detailing precise packaging, preservation, and shipping requirements for military equipment. The instructions specify detailed procedures for cleaning, drying, and preserving the machine gun components, including requirements for packaging individual parts like the receiver holder, buttstock support, barrel assembly, and operating rod assembly.
Key specifications include using MIL-STD-2073-1 packaging standards, heat-treating wood packaging materials to 56 degrees Celsius, and packaging components in specific VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) bags. The document provides exact dimensional drawings for supporting components and a comprehensive packaging diagram showing how each machine gun component should be positioned and secured within the shipping container. The packaging is designed to protect the weapon during transportation, with specific instructions for marking, cushioning, and preparing the machine gun for shipment while ensuring all critical components are properly preserved and protected.
