About this file

This document is a Minimum Salient Characteristics specification for musical instruments required by Marine Band San Diego under contract M340006928042. The Marine Corps seeks to procure six professional musical instruments: one Yamaha YAS62III Alto Saxophone, one Yamaha YHR671D French Horn, one Nord Stage 4-88 Digital Keyboard, one Adams VCSF30M Vibraphone, one C.G. Conn 20KSPW Sousaphone, and one Adams BK5216C Concert Chimes. Each instrument specification includes detailed technical requirements, including finish specifications, bore measurements, key configurations, and included accessories such as cases and care products. The Alto Saxophone must feature gold lacquer finish with high F# and front F auxiliary keys; the French Horn requires Geyer style wrap with .472" bore and string linkage system; the keyboard must include 88 weighted hammer-action keys with MIDI integration, reverb, delay, chorus, and other integrated effects along with a hard shell waterproof case and double keyboard stand; the Vibraphone requires a 3-octave concert series with aluminum bars, motor feature, and felt dampening pedal; the Sousaphone must be BBb key with silver plated finish and rolling case; and the Concert Chimes require 1.5-octave configuration with brass alloy tubes and adjustable frame with foot dampener mechanism.

The requirement specifies brand names and models to maintain consistency across the Marine Band San Diego's existing ensemble, as professional ensembles perform as a unified "voice" and require matching makes and models within musical sections. Additionally, the specified instruments are compatible with existing maintenance materials and parts already stocked in the unit's instrument repair shop, avoiding the need for costly restocking. All items must include necessary cases, stands, and care products as applicable to the specific instrument type.

Marine Band San Diego is looking to refresh musical instruments that are part of Unit’s existing Table of Equipment (T/E). Instruments within a musical section cannot be mixed in terms of characteristics. A professional ensemble will perform in such a way as to be heard as one “voice” which becomes increasingly difficult to accomplish with other makes and models. The makes and models of instruments listed match the rest of the current existing material inventory and are also able to utilize the tools and materials already stocked in the instrument repair shop. Deviating from these makes and models would require restocking the instrument repair shop rather than utilizing maintenance materials and parts that are on hand.
