1.2 The FRC East is charged with the administration of unique repair procedures on various gas turbine engine components including the F404, F402, T64, T58 and T400 engine series.
1.3 Gas turbine engine components suffer cracks and damage due to service exposure.
1.4 Nickel, cobalt, and iron base super alloy turbine components require a Hydrogen Fluoride (HF) gas cleaning for removal of oxides and sulfides from their surfaces for subsequent braze repairs.
2. Scope:
2.1 This Statement of work (SOW) describes the requirements needed to HF clean an assortment of gas turbine engine components including parts in the F404, F402, T64, T58 and T400 engine series. The parts are constructed of nickel and cobalt materials and are shown for relative size in the attached enclosures 1 through 5. The weight of the nozzle rings shown in enclosures 3 and 5 are approximately 10 pounds each and the approximate weights of the nozzle doublets and single segments shown in the other enclosures are 2 and 1 pounds respectively.
2.2 Parts that require HF cleaning are as follows:
(a) F404 engine high pressure and low pressure turbine nozzles shown in enclosure 1.
(b) F402 engine low pressure stage 1 and low pressure stage 2 nozzles shown in enclosure 2.
(c) T64 engine stage 3 nozzles, shown in enclosure 3.
(d) T64 engine stage 1 and stage 2 nozzles shown in enclosure 4.

The hydrogen fluoride cleaned parts shall allow the filling of existing cracks and voids with a diffusion braze material by capillary action constituting an activated diffusion healing (ADH) of the cracked areas. Acceptable cleanliness limits are a continuous denuded (removal of yttrium, titanium, and aluminum from the surface) layer up to 1 mil max of the base metal surface with up to 3 mils intermittent (spotty). There shall be no continuous intergranular attack (IGA) of the carbide phases, however noncontinuous, intermittent IGA up to 3 mils max is acceptable below the depleted, denuded surface layer.
