About this file
This document is a reference guide identifying consulting American Indian Tribes for Hill Air Force Base cultural resources management. Anya Kitterman, Archaeologist and Cultural Resources Program Manager at Hill Air Force Base (contact: anya.kitterman@us.af.mil, 801-586-2464), compiled this list based on an ethnographic study conducted by the National Park Service.
The document identifies 18 American Indian Tribes with ancestral territories on Hill Air Force Base managed properties, including the Blackfeet Tribe, Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, Ute Indian Tribe, and various Shoshone and Paiute bands. An additional four tribes—Duckwater Shoshone Tribe, Ely Shoshone Tribe, Wells Band of Western Shoshone, and Montana Little Shell Chippewa Tribe—were added to the consulting tribes list following subsequent consultations and an increase in Military Operations Area. The Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation are noted as deferred to other consulting American Indian Tribes. This compilation serves as the official roster for cultural resources consultation and American Indian consultation requirements related to federal undertakings at the installation.
