About this file
This is a Liquid Penetrant Inspection Report documenting nondestructive testing (NDT) performed on welded components for the USNS SPEARHEAD vessel. The inspection was conducted by GC Energy Services, a division of Gulf Copper, on June 14, 2025, under procedure GC-PT-WETSPRAY (version 1.0) with Quality Assurance approval from the NDT Manager and Level III approval from Jeff Johnson, both dated September 16, 2019.
The inspection examined filet welds on aluminum deck plating and tow rigs on both the port and starboard sides of the vessel. The work followed AWS D1.1 acceptance criteria and employed solvent-removable penetrant (Maganaflux 3048) applied by spray, with a 10-minute dwell time and solvent-based developer (Maganaflux 2678) applied by spray with a 10-minute development time. Surface preparation involved cleaning with lint-free rags and solvent, and inspection was performed under 1000 Lux lighting at ambient temperature. Ramon Quiroga, a Level II PT Inspector, conducted the examination and found no rejectable indications at the time of inspection. Attached photographs document the inspected areas, showing the marked weld locations and inspection results on the deck plating and tow rig connections.
