About this file
This is a Limited Use Limited Application (LULA) Elevator Replacement Specifications document for the Quechee Gorge Visitor Center in Quechee, Vermont. The existing two-stop elevator, a 1:2 roped hydraulic system manufactured by National Wheel-O-Vator Co., Inc. (Evolution EV Series, Model EV 12), was manufactured in January 2005 and requires replacement. The elevator services a 12-foot travel distance at 30 feet per minute with a cab measuring 42 inches wide by 54 inches deep by 7 feet high. The unit has a 1,000-pound car weight with a maximum rated load capacity of 1,400 pounds and features two 3-foot by 6-foot 8-inch automatic horizontal-sliding steel hoistway doors.
The existing system utilizes a 5-horsepower submersed motor operating at 1,750 RPM driving a vane-type pump delivering 7.2 gallons per minute, with a 30-gallon Type 32 All-Weather hydraulic fluid reservoir and a single hydraulic jack with 90 mm diameter piston and 114 mm cylinder. The system operates at 590 PSI standard working pressure with a 750 PSI maximum relief valve setting. Electrical service consists of 208 VAC single-phase 60 Hz primary power (30-amp dedicated disconnect) with 22 amps full load draw and 110 VAC single-phase auxiliary power for cab lighting (15-amp disconnect). Internal control circuits operate on 24 VDC. Safety features include emergency cab lighting, broken-rope safety switch, low-pressure switch, speed governor, final limit switch, and manual safety stop/inspection switches. The cab is equipped with stainless steel hall stations and car operating panel with ADA-compliant hands-free emergency telephone and Braille/tactile designations.

Quechee Gorge Visitor Center Limited Use Limited Application (LULA)
1. General Overview and Operational Characteristics:
The existing vertical transportation equipment designated for replacement is a two-stop, Limited Use/Limited Application (LULA) elevator located at the Visitor Center. The unit is a 1:2 roped hydraulic system manufactured by The National Wheel-O-Vator Co., Inc., specifically the Evolution EV Series, Model No. EV 12 (Serial No. 88910), with a manufacture date of January 5, 2005. The elevator utilizes selective collective automatic operation to service a total travel distance of 12 feet, 0 inches at a rated speed of 30 feet per minute (FPM).
2. Mechanical and Structural Specifications:
The mechanical enclosure and structural components consist of a cab with clear internal dimensions of 42 inches wide by 54 inches deep, and a clear interior height of 7 feet, 0 inches. The existing car weight is 1,000 pounds, supporting a maximum rated load capacity of 1,400 pounds. Access to the cab is controlled via automatic, two-speed, horizontal-sliding steel hoistway doors measuring 3 feet, 0 inches wide by 6 feet, 8 inches high. The elevator cab is suspended by two 3/8-inch galvanized 7x19 steel core aircraft cables.
3. Drive and Hydraulic System:
Motive power for the LULA elevator is supplied by a 5-horsepower submersed motor operating at 1750 RPM. This motor drives a constant-displacement, vane-type pump delivering 7.2 gallons per minute (GPM). The system relies on a 30-gallon reservoir of Type 32 All-Weather hydraulic fluid to operate a single hydraulic jack equipped with a 90 mm diameter piston and a 114 mm cylinder. The hydraulic pressure lines are constructed from 3.5-inch seamless Schedule 80 piping. The system's operational parameters are configured with a standard working pressure of 590 PSI and a maximum relief valve setting of 750 PSI.
4. Electrical Subsystems and Safety Features:
The primary electrical service feeding the equipment is a 208 VAC, single-phase, 60 Hz supply utilizing a dedicated 30-amp disconnect, with the motor drawing a full load of 22 amps. The cab lighting is independently powered by a 110 VAC, single-phase supply routed through a dedicated 15-amp disconnect, while the internal control circuits operate on 24 VDC. Passenger interfaces include stainless steel hall stations and a corresponding stainless steel Car Operating Panel (COP) featuring integrated Braille/tactile designations, alongside an ADA-compliant, hands-free emergency telephone. Integrated safety mechanisms include emergency cab lighting, a broken-rope safety switch, a low-pressure switch, a speed governor, an upper final limit switch, and manual safety stop/inspection switches located in both the pit and on the car top
