Letter to Bureau of Prisons Food Suppliers
The Bureau of Prisons (Bureau) is a leader in correctional excellence , incarcerating over 20 0 , 000 inmates in secure facilitie s across the United States . The Bureau takes great pride in ensuring th e efficient operation of each facility . As it pertains to the dietary needs of inmates , the Bureau ' s mission is to-
• Provide inma tes with meals that are nutritionally adequate , properl y prepared , and attractively served .
• Identify , develop , and manage essential resources to meet the operational needs of the Food Service program .
Food suppliers play a valuable role in the Agency ' s s u ccess in meeting its Food Servi ce mission . Food suppliers who ensure timely delivery and conformance to specifications position the agency not only to meet its missi on but to exceed it in terms of benefit to the inmate population and in the preservation of financia l resources .
Conversely , food suppliers who fail to ensure timely delivery and who deliver non - conforming items detract from the Agency ' s success and ultimately cos t the Agency in terms of lost time and effort to remedy contractual non - compliances .
The Bureau is committ ed to ensur ing high efficiency in its operations .
Accordingly , greater emphasis is being placed on the proper administration of its contracts for the supply of food items . Remedy will be undertaken for those contractors who fail to meet the obligations of their contracts . To ensure efficient operation of each facility , especially food service operations , it is imperative all Food Service suppliers submit price quotations in good faith , tender timely delivery of contracted food items , and comply with all mandated specifica ions .
Sincerely , Matthew D. Nace Procurement Executive Administrator
