About this file
The document is a Project Description for the Lake Fairfield Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation Project, issued by the Greenville County Public Works Department Engineering/Maintenance Division in South Carolina. The project involves comprehensive rehabilitation of an existing pedestrian bridge and boardwalk originally constructed in 2007, located on Lake Fairfield Drive. The primary scope includes replacing boardwalk beams, joists, decking, handrail posts, and rails, with the existing 8"x8" supports and cross bracing remaining in place. The project requires a 60-calendar day timeline for substantial completion, with an additional 15 days allocated for final punch list items, erosion control device removal, staging area restoration, and project closeout.
The project offers both a primary and alternate scope, with the primary scope involving replacement of boardwalk components using 5/4" hardwood decking and the alternate scope using pressure-treated Southern Yellow Pine lumber. The contractor is responsible for demolition, utility protection, and site stabilization, including installing silt fences and sediment control measures. No specific budget range is provided, but contractors must follow Greenville County and South Carolina Department of Transportation specifications. The project does not require excavation or land disturbance activities and does not anticipate the need for regulatory permitting. Contractors must provide comprehensive insurance coverage and comply with local and state regulations, with potential liquidated damages assessed for project delays.

Lake Fairfield Boardwalk and Pedestrian Bridge REHAB Project Project Location
The project site is located on Lake Fairfield Drive in Greenville, South Carolina. The pedestrian bridge and boardwalk connects the end of Fairfield Drive with the cul-de-sac on Hermitage Road. The existing pedestrian bridge and boardwalk were completed in 2007. For the proposed work, the contractor shall take all the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the public and prevent damage to County roads/infrastructure, utilities, and private property.
Project Scope
The main purpose of the rehab project is to replace the boardwalk beams, joists, decking, handrail posts and rails. The existing 8"x8" boardwalk supports and cross bracing will remain. Originally, the deck for the 60' prefabricated steel bridge was to be rehabilitated but the revised project scope now includes replacing the bridge deck with 2x6 PT SYP covered with 5/4x6 hardwood, secured with self-tapping Tek screws. The contractor shall be responsible for demolition and removal of the boardwalk superstructure as shown on the project plans. The county has already removed screws for the bridge deck, so the contractor may easily remove/dispose of the 3x8 pine boards.
Alternate Scope
The alternate scope consists of replacing boardwalks and bridge deck with P.T. SYP lumber (no hardwood).
