1.2 Qualifications F. The HCM shall be able to unload at the curb in front of the building and travel about 175’ to the location of the curtain installation.

Does the venue require union labor to perform this cartage? Fabricator should deliver the curtain to the curb. JFKC will move the curtain into the building and do the installation.

1.2 Substitutions B All questions requiring clarification or interpretation of the specifications should be addressed to the COTR.

We could not find the name and contact info for the COTR. COTR is Barbara Gartley. All bid correspondence should go to the Contracting Office.

1.3 SUBMITTAL WITH BID

B. Furnish with bid a schedule of the following time estimates:

a. Length of time required to supply the curtain This will be determined, among other things by the availability and scope of the trim work which is undetermined as of this RFP. Trim is not required.

In a House Curtain of this importance the role of the trim is not incidental. The current specification contains some contradictory passages regarding the trim:

1.4 EVALUATION OF BIDS

B. Do not include price for trim (indicated on drawing) in bid price.

1.6 E. Trim, if any, shall be provided by the House Curtain Manufacturer

2.2 TRIM

A. Trim indicated on the drawing will be determined at a later date or may be entirely omitted. Do not include trim in bid price.

E. House Curtain

i. Apply trim at the bottom of each panel as shown on the drawing B. Mockup

(a) Provide one 7-hour daylong factory work session and mockup demonstration.

(b) COTR shall visit the manufacturers factory to review fullness options.

We can hang a curtain a maximum of 20'high in our factory. Should we include in our bid the cost of the full day rental of a facility in which the 32'high mock-up can be hung? Project should be bid according to specification.

(c) Manufacturer shall provide a piece of the specified material 20'-0" wide x 32'-0" high.

(d) Purpose of the mock up shall be to determine final gathering and fullness details.

Is this mock-up piece meant to be sewn flat do that the COTR and Vendor can stage it in various fullnesses to determine whether is resembles the drawing? (The drawing appears to be about 50%-75% fullness, so we are assuming the 200%-250% fullness called out supersedes our interpretation of the drawing.) The final fullness will be determined by the mock up.

1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS

D. House curtain fabric shall be furnished by the Government

a. Delivery shall be to the HCM on or about 11 October 2008.

b. Quantity shall be 231 yards.

2.1 FABRIC

B. House Curtain Fabric

a. 100% PES Trevira as manufactured by Lelievre, furnished by the Government

b. Width: 320 cm (126)

c. Vertical pattern repeat: approximately 29 The amount of 231 yards of 126" fabric with a repeat of 29" effectively limits the fullness allowance to just under 200% fullness and that assumes that there are no flaws and that the roll sizes are such that there is no waste. No response.

FYI:200% which is 3 times the finished width pleated in is, in our experience more than adequate to create the richest look for house curtain. They are usually 100%. 250% is barely feasible in all but the sheerest of fabrics. No response.

C. House Curtain Lining

a. Janus as manufactured by Dazian or equal

(a) 72 wide

(b) 100% polyester IFR 11oz/yd

(c) Black We would Substitute IFR RB Cloth which has identical specs. Provide product data to determine if this product is equivalent.

E. House Curtain

h. Each house curtain panel shall be weighted with a steel pipe hanging in straps sewn to the backing and attached to the panels as shown on the drawing.

Is the HCM supplying the pipe? Yes.

2.5 HOUSE CURTAIN

B. The curtain shall be capable of being flown as a straight lift, and shall open at centerline for opera style curtain calls.

An Opera style curtain, also called a Tab or Tableau, requires ring lines running diagonally from the lower on-stage edge to the upper off-stage edge of each half. Is this what is meat by this passage? Does the rigging and motor required for this treatment exist or is it in the scope of the HCM to provide? Not in scope.

E. House Curtain

h. Each house curtain panel shall be weighted with a steel pipe hanging in straps sewn to the backing and attached to the panels as shown on the drawing.

A Tab cannot operate with a pipe at the bottom Pipe is segmented.

(b) Points of attachment shall not to be visible from the audience side of the drape.

(c) Suspend the batten from the house curtain batten with 3/16 wire rope with 10-0" spacing.

(d) Segment and hinge the batten to accommodate opera bows through the center of the curtain.

Is installation and the above rigging materials in the scope of the HCM? Here the passages seem somewhat contradictory: Yes, this is in the scope. Two separate pipes are at the bottom with handle, one pipe at top.
