I. General Fence Specifications

Posts

• All cedar posts shall be set plumb (vertical), in complete straight alignment with fence lines, dirt packed solid around posts and be sturdy.

• Cedar posts must be buried a minimum of 30” inches below ground level and dirt packed and tamped hard around the posts. The tops of cedar posts shall be cut off so they are 48” inches above ground level.

• Cedar post spacing shall be a maximum of 10 feet. They may be closer depending on ground conditions, terrain, corner braces, etc. In no locations shall there be posts spaced more than 10 feet apart.

• Additional single cedar posts are required to be installed where the ground slopes or dips up or down, at side gullies, or where wet soils occur.

Wire

• Barbed wire spacing shall be measured perpendicular to the ground and wire spacing will be 16 inches, 8 inches and 8 inches from the ground up.

• Barbed wire must be stretched tight with similar tension on all 3 strands. The barbed wire shall not sag or be loose in any areas. Do not twist or bend barbed wire between posts to tighten strands.

• Barbed wire shall be stapled to wood posts. Staples shall not be driven in tight such that they bend or pinch the barbed wire.

Poles

• Pine pole spacing shall be measured parallel to the ground and will be placed so ends overlap on the same side of the fence. The ends of the poles shall not butt up against each other.

• The top height of the topmost pole shall not be higher than 44 inches above the ground.

• Poles shall be perpendicular to the cedar posts.

Gates

• There will be five (5) 12 foot metal gates gate installed adjacent to cattleguards, except for the gate near the Little Res. Dam. Gates should be heavy duty, tube steel construction, manufactured by Powder River or approved equivalent. These gates should be installed in a way to ensure that it can be padlocked with a chain and lock.

Locations of the gates are identified on the contract map.

• Use Treated 6” dia. Wood Posts on either side of gate, except at the backside of Little Res. where the existing posts may be used.

Stays -- Single Pole/Three Strand Barbwire Fence

• Cedar or Oak Fence Stays will be used, evenly spaced between cedar posts and secured to the fence with tie wire or staple along each barbwire strand.

• Fence stays will be cut to appropriate height so that top pole rests on stay.

J.2 Attachment-1240LT23R0021

Braces -- Single Pole/Three Strand Barbwire Fence

• There will be a single H-brace every quarter mile used to tie off barbwire and to allow for fencing to be tight.

• Single H-braces: These braces consist of 2 cedar posts spaced ~6’ apart with 2 wood or cedar post horizontal braces placed between notched posts at 42” maximum height with an “X”-style twisted tight, barbwire tie between two wood posts. The “X” wire tie shall be crossed above and below the horizontal brace such that the wire holds the horizontal brace in place when twisted tight. Horizontal braces shall be nailed to posts. H-braces shall be vertical, sturdy, dirt packed solid and in straight alignment with the fence on each side.

• All corners will have 2 single H-braces (total of 2 braces), and will only need 3 cedar posts.
