About this file
This is a Specifications for Work to be Accomplished document (NAPL-024-26) issued by the Department of the Navy's Fleet Maintenance and Modernization Center (FDRMC) in Naples for work on the USS BAINBRIDGE (DDG 96), a 509-foot naval destroyer with a full load displacement of 9,371 long tons. The specification incorporates FY-26 standard items applicable to naval ship maintenance work, including general criteria, environmental compliance, quality management systems, confined space entry, fire protection, asbestos control, and other operational and safety requirements. The document references multiple category items with change dates ranging from July 2024 through February 2026, with several items updated through Change 1 dated November 18, 2024.
The primary work item identified is Item 561-11-001: Steering Gear Hydraulic Power Unit Pump (HPU) replacement in the Steering Gear Room (4-442-0-E). The contractor must remove and dispose of system fluids up to 500 gallons, remove the existing Northrup Grumman Systems axial piston pump (Mfr. ID: 1983373, 127 GPM, 1,200 RPM, 5,000 PSI), and install a government-furnished replacement pump. Work includes restoration of piping flange mating surfaces, torque verification of fasteners to 575-600 foot-pounds, coupling alignment verification per item 009-058, and operational testing with zero allowable leakage. The contractor must coordinate with Ship's Force for mechanical and electrical isolation, conduct a joint compartment closeout inspection, and rig equipment weighing 574 pounds; crane services are required for equipment transport. Ship's Force will conduct system flush and isolation procedures, and no contractor personnel may operate ship's force equipment.
