SECTION 010150
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
PART 1 – SUMMARY OF WORK
1.1 DESCRIPTION
A. Work for this project requires the Contractor to be responsible for supplying all labor, materials, equipment, utilities, miscellaneous items, freight and delivery and all necessary valid licenses for the work summarized as follows:
1. Building 301 Administration Roof Replacement
2. Building 504 Gymnasium/Recreation Roof Rehabilitation and Coating
3. Building 504D Storage Roof Repair and Replacement
4. Building 514 Construction VOC Painting and Gutter Repair
5. Building 608 IT/CPP Roof Replacement
6. Building 705 WPO/CPP Roof Replacement and Soffit/Fascia
1.2 LOCATION
A. This project is located at the Jacobs Creek Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center located 32 of miles from Bristol, TN, in Sullivan County. The address is 984 Denton
Valley Road, Bristol, TN 37620. Driving instructions can be obtained from the Center by calling (423) 878-4021.
1.3 PROJECT SCHEDULING
A. Work hours for this project are between 8:00 AM-4:30 PM Monday through Friday.

USE OF PREMISES
A. Confine constructions operations to immediate area of work. Do not disturb portions of
Project site beyond areas in which the Work is indicated.
B. Government will occupy site and buildings during entire construction period. Cooperate with Government during construction operations to minimize conflicts and facilitate
Government usage. Perform the work so as not to interfere with Government's day-to-day operations.

C. Keep driveways, parking areas, loading areas, and entrances to buildings clear at all times and available to Government, Government's employees, and emergency vehicles.
Do not use these areas for parking or storage of materials. Do not close or obstruct walkways, corridors, or other occupied or used facilities without written permission from
Government and authorities having jurisdiction.
1.6 WORK RESTRICTIONS
A. Smoking is not permitted within the buildings or within 25 feet (8 m) of entrances, operable windows, or outdoor air intakes.

1.8 SCHEDULE OF ITEMS
A. Schedule of Items: The project Schedule of Items includes several sections to organize the work into Base Items and Optional Items.
1. Provide pricing for all items listed in the Schedule of Items.
2. Contract award will be made for all Base Items.
B. Base Items (BI):
1. Base Item No. 1- Building 301 Administration Roof Replacement
a. Measurement: Roof size is approximately 4,500 square feet; Contractor shall verify all quantities.
b. Payment: The contract lump sum price as shown in the Schedule of Items includes all materials, equipment, labor and incidentals to:
1) Remove existing asphalt shingles, underlayment, drip edge, flashing/boots/jacks, accessories, and properly dispose of off-site.
2) Install new underlayment and continuous drip-edge. Drip-edge color shall be selected by the Contracting Officer (CO), from the manufacturer’s full color palatte.
3) Install all drip-edge, trim, roof penetration flashing/boots/jack, accessories, and fasteners per manufacturer’s recommendations.
4) Install hip vent from three feet from edge of roof to the peak of the roof line according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
5) Install Architectural-Grade Asphalt shingles per specification Section
073113. Color shall be selected by the CO, from the manufacturer’s full color palette.
6) Seal all penetrations with silicone rubber caulking.
7) Install gutter and down spout. Color shall be selected by the CO, from the manufacturer’s standard range of colors.
2. Base Item No. 2- Building 504 Gymnasium/Recreation Roof Coating
a. Measurement: Roof size is approximately 18,000 square feet; Contractor shall verify all quantities.

b. Payment: The contract lump sum price as shown in the Schedule of Items includes all materials, equipment, labor and incidentals to:
1) Perform general cleaning of the roof noting any areas of concern and submit a written report to the CO.
2) Remove and replace all metal deck fasteners.
3) Perform cleaning and surface preparation per the manufacturer’s written instructions.
4) Have manufacturer’s representative inspect and approve the surface prior applying any coatings, at any intermediate procedures, and for a final inspection.
5) Protect all adjacent surfaces and any property that could be affected by the application of the roof coating products.
6) Install fluid applied coating per the manufacturer’s requirements and these specifications.
3. Base Item No. 3- Building 504D Roof Repair and Replacement
a. Measurement: Roof size is approximately 1,300 square feet; Contractor shall verify all quantities.
b. Payment: The contract lump sum price as shown in the Schedule of Items includes all materials, equipment, labor and incidentals to:
1) Remove existing asphalt shingles, underlayment, drip edge, flashing/boots/jacks, accessories, and properly dispose of off-site.
2) Remove and replace damaged decking. The decking to repair the hole shall be include in the base bid. Any other decking needing to be replaced will be calculated out of the optional item 1.
3) Install new underlayment and continuous drip-edge. Drip-edge color shall be selected by the Contracting Officer (CO), from the manufacturer’s full color palette.
4) Install all drip-edge, trim, roof penetration flashing/boots/jacks, accessories, and fasteners per manufacturer’s recommendations.
5) Install ridge vents along full-length of ridge lines according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
6) Install Architectural-Grade Asphalt shingles per specification Section
073113. Color shall be selected by the CO, from the manufacturer’s full color palette.
7) Seal all penetrations with silicone rubber caulking.
8) Install gutter and down spout. Color shall be selected by the CO, from

1) Clean exterior wooded siding, prep for painting, and paint the exterior.
2) Repair and attach gutter to the building. Replace any damaged and/or missing part on the gutter system.

5. Base Item No. 5- Building 608 IT/CPP Roof Replacement
a. Measurement: Roof size is approximately 2,400 square feet; Contractor shall verify all quantities.
b. Payment: The contract lump sum price as shown in the Schedule of Items includes all materials, equipment, labor and incidentals to:
1) Remove existing asphalt shingles, underlayment, drip edge, flashing/boots/jacks, accessories, and properly dispose of off-site.
2) Install new underlayment and continuous drip-edge. Drip-edge color shall be selected by the Contracting Officer (CO), from the manufacturer’s full color palette.
3) Install all drip-edge, trim, roof penetration flashing/boots/jacks, accessories, and fasteners per manufacturer’s recommendations.
4) Install ridge vents along full-length of ridge lines according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
5) Install Architectural-Grade Asphalt shingles per specification Section

6. Base Item No. 6- Building 705 WPO/CPP Roof Replacement
a. Measurement: Roof size is approximately 2,700 square feet; Contractor shall verify all quantities.
b. Payment: The contract lump sum price as shown in the Schedule of Items includes all materials, equipment, labor and incidentals to:
1) Remove existing asphalt shingles, underlayment, drip edge, flashing/boots/jacks, accessories, and properly dispose of off-site.
2) Install new underlayment and continuous drip-edge. Drip-edge color shall be selected by the Contracting Officer (CO), from the manufacturer’s full color palate.
3) Install all drip-edge, trim, roof penetration flashing/boots/jacks, accessories, and fasteners per manufacturer’s recommendations.
4) Install ridge vent along full-length of ridge line according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
5) Install Architectural-Grade Asphalt shingles per specification Section
073113. Color shall be selected by the CO, from the manufacturer’s full color palette.
6) Seal all penetrations with silicone rubber caulking.

8) Remove the soffit material and replace with vinyl soffit material.
Cover the existing fascia material with aluminum. Color shall be selected by the CO, from the manufacturer’s standard range of colors.

C. Optional Items (OI):
1. Optional Item No. 1- Roof Sheathing Replacement
a. Measurement: This item is measured as the actual square foot quantity of sheathing replaced.
b. Payment: The contract unit price as shown in the Schedule of Items includes all materials, equipment, labor and incidentals to:
1) Remove and replace ½” or ¾” decking (match existing). Removal and replacement areas shall be approved by the CO prior to performance of the work.
PART 2 – SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES
2.1 DEFINITIONS
A. Action Submittals: Written and graphic information that requires Government approval.
B. Informational Submittals: Written information that does not require Government approval. Submittals may be rejected for not complying with requirements.
2.2 PROCEDURES
A. Contractor Responsibilities
1. Review each submittal and check for compliance with the Contract Documents.
2. Highlight, encircle, or otherwise identify deviations from the Contract Documents on submittals.
3. Include the following information on label or cover sheet for processing and recording action taken:
a. Project name.
b. Date.
c. Name and address of Contractor.
d. Name of manufacturer.
e. Unique identifier, including revision number.
f. Number and title of appropriate Specification Section.
g. Drawing number and detail references, as appropriate.
h. Date of Contractor’s approval.
i. Statement certifying that submittal has been reviewed, checked, and approved by the Contractor for compliance with the Contract Documents.
4. The Government will not review submittals that do not bear Contractor's approval and will return them without action.
5. Unless additional copies are required for final submittal, and unless the CO observes noncompliance with provisions of the Contract Documents, initial submittal may serve as final submittal.

6. Only final submittals with mark indicating action taken by Government are to be used for construction.
7. Submittals not required by the Contract Documents will not be reviewed and may be discarded.
B. Processing Time: Time for review shall commence on CO's receipt of submittal.
1. Initial Review: Government will review initial submittal within 10 working days.
Additional time may be needed if processing must be delayed to permit coordination with subsequent submittals. CO will advise Contractor when a submittal being processed must be delayed for coordination.
2. Resubmittals: If resubmittal is necessary, it will be processed in same timeframe as initial submittal.
2.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS
A. Prepare and submit Action Submittals required in the Technical Specifications in this contract, if applicable, and as indicated at the end of this subsection.
1. Submit two copies of each submittal, unless otherwise indicated. CO will return one copy. Mark up and retain one returned copy as a Project Record Document.
Electronic submission of PDFs is an acceptable alternative to paper submission.
B. Collect information into a single submittal for each element of construction and type of product or equipment.
1. Mark each copy of each submittal to show which products and options are applicable.
2. Include the following information, as applicable:
a. Manufacturer's written recommendations.
b. Manufacturer's product specifications.
c. Manufacturer's installation instructions.
d. Manufacturer's catalog cuts.
e. Wiring diagrams showing factory-installed wiring.
f. Compliance with recognized trade association standards.
g. Compliance with recognized testing agency standards.
C. Required Action Submittals
1. Product Data: refer to technical specifications
2.4 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS
A. Prepare and submit Informational Submittals required in the Technical Specifications in this contract, if applicable, and as indicated at the end of this subsection.
1. Submit one copy of each submittal, unless otherwise indicated. CO will not return copy. Electronic submission of PDFs is an acceptable alternative to paper submission.

2. Provide a statement that includes signature of entity responsible for preparing certification.
B. Required Informational Submittals:

PART 3 – TEMPORARY FACILITIES AND CONTROLS
3.1 USE OF UTILITIES
A. Utilities: Use of Government existing facilities will be permitted without metering and without payment of use charges, as long as facilities are cleaned and maintained in an acceptable condition. At Substantial Completion, restore these facilities to condition existing before initial use. The following are available for use by the contractor: water, and electrical power services. The following are not available: telephone service.
3.2 SANITARY FACILITIES
A. Sanitary facilities are not available for use by the Contractor.
3.3 STAGING AREAS
A. Coordinate on-site staging and storage requirements with the Center Point of Contact or the Contracting Officer Representative (COR).
3.4 CONSTRUCTION WASTE DISPOSAL FACILITIES
A. Provide waste-collection containers in sizes adequate to handle waste from construction operations. Containerize and clearly label hazardous, dangerous, or unsanitary waste materials separately from other waste.
3.5 SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
A. Environmental Protection: Contractor shall provide protection, operate temporary facilities, and conduct construction in ways and by methods that comply with environmental regulations and that minimize possible air, waterway, and subsoil contamination or pollution or other undesirable effects.
B. Barricades, Warning Signs, and Lights: Comply with the national or state Manual on
Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for erecting structurally adequate barricades, paint with appropriate colors, graphics, and warning signs/lights to inform personnel and public of possible hazard.
C. Fire Protection.

1. Store combustible materials in containers in fire-safe locations.
2. Maintain unobstructed access to fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, fire-protection facilities, stairways, and other access routes for firefighting. Prohibit smoking in hazardous fire-exposure areas.
3. Supervise welding operations, combustion-type temporary heating units, and similar sources of fire ignition.
PART 4 – EXECUTION REQUIREMENTS
4.1 EXAMINATION
A. Before beginning work, examine areas and document existing conditions. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. Proceeding with the
Work indicates acceptance of surfaces and conditions.
B. Field verify all new and existing dimensions affecting the work of this contract before ordering products.
C. Immediately on discovery of the need for clarification of the Contract Documents, submit a request for information to CO. Include a detailed description of problem encountered, together with recommendations for changing the Contract Documents.
4.2 INSTALLATION
A. Locate the Work and components of the Work accurately, in correct alignment and elevation to fit with existing construction.
B. Make vertical work plumb and make horizontal work level.
C. Install per manufacturer's written instructions and recommendations.
4.3 PROGRESS CLEANING
A. Clean Project site and work areas daily, including common areas. Dispose of materials lawfully.
1. Comply with NFPA 241 requirements for removal of combustible waste materials and debris.
2. Do not hold materials more than 7 days during normal weather or 3 days if the temperature is expected to rise above 80 deg F (27 deg C).
B. Burying or burning waste materials on-site will not be permitted. Washing waste materials down sewers or into waterways will not be permitted.
4.4 PROTECTION OF INSTALLED CONSTRUCTION

A. Provide protection and maintain conditions that ensure installed Work does not get damaged or deteriorated prior to Substantial Completion.
4.5 CORRECTION OF THE WORK
A. Repair or remove and replace defective construction. Restore damaged substrates and finishes.
1. Repairing includes replacing defective parts, refinishing damaged surfaces, touching up with matching materials, and properly adjusting operating equipment.
PART 5 – CLOSEOUT PROCEDURES
5.1 SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION
A. Definition of Substantial Completion: The Date certified by the CO when construction is sufficiently complete, in accordance with the Contract Documents, so the Government can occupy or utilize the Work or designated portion thereof for the use for which it is intended, as expressed in the Contract Documents.
B. Preliminary Procedures: Before requesting inspection for determining date of Substantial
Completion, complete the following. List items below that are incomplete in request.
1. Prepare a list of items to be completed and corrected (punch list), the value of items on the list, and reasons why the Work is not complete.
2. Advise the CO of pending insurance changeover requirements.
3. Submit specific warranties, workmanship bonds, final certifications, and similar documents.
4. Obtain and submit releases permitting Government unrestricted use of the Work and access to services and utilities.
5. Deliver tools, spare parts, extra materials, and similar items to location designated by Government. Label with manufacturer's name and model number where applicable.
6. Complete startup testing of systems.
7. Submit changeover information related to Government occupancy, use, operation, and maintenance.
8. Complete final cleaning requirements, including touchup painting.
9. Touch up and otherwise repair and restore marred exposed finishes to eliminate visual defects.
C. Inspection: Submit a written request for inspection for Substantial Completion. On receipt of request, CO will either proceed with inspection or notify Contractor of unfulfilled requirements. CO will prepare the Certificate of Substantial Completion after inspection or will notify Contractor of items, either on Contractor's list or additional items identified by CO, that must be completed or corrected before certificate will be issued.

1. Reinspection: Request reinspection when the Work identified in previous inspections as incomplete is completed or corrected.
2. Results of completed inspection will form the basis of requirements for Final
Completion.
5.2 FINAL COMPLETION
A. Preliminary Procedures: Before requesting final inspection for determining date of Final
Completion, complete the following:
1. Submit certified copy of CO’s Substantial Completion inspection list of items to be completed or corrected (punch list), endorsed and dated by CO. The certified copy of the list shall state that each item has been completed or otherwise resolved for acceptance.
2. Submit evidence of final, continuing insurance coverage complying with insurance requirements.
3. Instruct Government personnel in operation, adjustment, and maintenance of products, equipment, and systems.
B. Inspection: Submit a written request for final inspection for acceptance. On receipt of request, CO will either proceed with inspection or notify Contractor of unfulfilled requirements. CO will prepare a final Certificate for Payment after inspection or will notify Contractor of construction that must be completed or corrected before certificate will be issued.
1. Reinspection: Request reinspection when the Work identified in previous inspections as incomplete is completed or corrected.
5.3 LIST OF INCOMPLETE ITEMS (PUNCH LIST)
A. Preparation: Include name and identification of each space and area affected by construction operations for incomplete items and items needing correction including, if necessary, areas disturbed by Contractor that are outside the limits of construction.
5.4 FINAL CLEANING
A. General: Provide final cleaning. Conduct cleaning and waste-removal operations to comply with local laws and ordinances and Federal and local environmental and antipollution regulations.
B. Cleaning Agents: Use cleaning materials and agents recommended by manufacturer or fabricator of the surface to be cleaned. Do not use cleaning agents that are potentially hazardous to health or property or that might damage finished surfaces.
C. Complete the following cleaning operations before requesting inspection for certification of Substantial Completion for entire Project or for a portion of Project:

1. Clean Project site, yard, and grounds, in areas disturbed by construction activities, including landscape development areas, of rubbish, waste material, litter, and other foreign substances.
2. Remove tools, construction equipment, machinery, and surplus material from
Project site.
3. Touch up and otherwise repair and restore marred, exposed finishes and surfaces.
Replace finishes and surfaces that cannot be satisfactorily repaired or restored or that already show evidence of repair or restoration.
D. Remove waste materials from Project site and dispose of lawfully.

SECTION 024119
SELECTIVE DEMOLITION
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes demolition, cutting, patching, repairs and removal of selected portions of a building or structure.
B. See additional Sections for specific requirements and limitations applicable to individ-ual parts of the work.
1.2 DEFINITIONS
A. Remove: Detach items from existing construction and legally dispose of them off-site, unless indicated to be removed and salvaged or removed and reinstalled.
B. Remove and Salvage: Detach items from existing construction and deliver them to
Government.
C. Remove and Reinstall: Detach items from existing construction, prepare them for re-use, and reinstall them where indicated.
D. Existing to Remain: Existing items of construction that are not to be removed and that are not otherwise indicated to be removed, removed and salvaged, or removed and re-installed.
1.3 MATERIALS OWNERSHIP
A. Except for items or materials indicated to be reused, salvaged, reinstalled, or otherwise indicated to remain Government property, demolished materials shall become Con-tractor's property and shall be removed from Project site.
1.4 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Government will occupy portions of building immediately adjacent to selective demo-lition area. Conduct selective demolition so Government operations will not be dis-rupted. Provide not less than 72 hours notice to Contracting Officer (CO) of activities that will affect Government operations.
B. Maintain access to existing walkways, corridors, and other adjacent occupied or used facilities.
1. Do not close or obstruct walkways, corridors, or other occupied or used facilities without written permission from authorities having jurisdiction.
C. Government assumes no responsibility for condition of areas to be selectively demol-ished.

1. Conditions existing at time of inspection for bidding purpose will be maintained by Government as far as practical.
D. Hazardous Materials: It is not expected that hazardous materials will be encountered in the Work.
1. If materials suspected of containing hazardous materials are encountered, do not disturb; immediately notify Contracting Officer (CO). Hazardous materials will be removed by Government under a separate contract.
E. Storage or sale of removed items or materials on-site will not be permitted.
PART 2 – PRODUCTS
2.1 REPAIR MATERIALS
A. Use repair materials identical to existing materials.
1. If identical materials are unavailable or cannot be used for exposed surfaces, use materials that visually match existing adjacent surfaces to the fullest extent pos-sible.
2. Use materials whose installed performance equals or surpasses that of existing materials.
PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that utilities have been disconnected and capped.
B. Survey existing conditions and correlate with requirements indicated to determine ex-tent of selective demolition required.
C. Inventory and record the condition of items to be removed and reinstalled and items to be removed and salvaged.
D. When unanticipated mechanical, electrical, or structural elements that conflict with in-tended function or design are encountered, investigate and measure the nature and ex-tent of conflict. Promptly submit a written report to CO.
E. Examine surfaces to be cut and patched and conditions under which cutting and patch-ing are to be performed.
1. Compatibility: Before patching, verify compatibility with and suitability of sub-strates, including compatibility with existing finishes or primers.

2. Proceed with installation only after unsafe or unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 POLLUTION CONTROLS
A. Dust Control: Use water mist, temporary enclosures, and other suitable methods to limit spread of dust and dirt. Comply with governing environmental-protection regulations.
1. Wet mop floors to eliminate trackable dirt and wipe down walls and doors of demolition enclosure. Vacuum carpeted areas.
B. Disposal: Remove and transport debris in a manner that will prevent spillage on adja-cent surfaces and areas.
1. Remove debris from elevated portions of building by chute, hoist, or other de-vice that will convey debris to grade level in a controlled descent.
C. Cleaning: Clean adjacent structures and improvements of dust, dirt, and debris caused by selective demolition operations. Return adjacent areas to condition existing before selective demolition operations began.
3.3 DEMOLITION
A. General: Demolish and remove existing construction only to the extent required by new construction and as indicated. Use methods required to complete the Work within limitations of governing regulations.
1. Neatly cut openings and holes plumb, square, and true to dimensions required.
Use cutting methods least likely to damage construction to remain or adjoining construction.
2. Cut or drill from the exposed or finished side into concealed surfaces to avoid marring existing finished surfaces.
3. Do not use cutting torches until work area is cleared of flammable materials. At concealed spaces, such as duct and pipe interiors, verify condition and contents of hidden space before starting flame-cutting operations. Maintain portable fire-suppression devices during flame-cutting operations.
4. Locate selective demolition equipment and remove debris and materials so as not to impose excessive loads on supporting walls, floors, or framing.
5. Dispose of Demolished items and materials promptly.
B. Existing Items to Remain: Protect construction indicated to remain against damage and soiling during selective demolition. When permitted by CO, items may be re-moved to a suitable, protected storage location during selective demolition and cleaned and reinstalled in their original locations after selective demolition operations are complete.

2.2 ACCESSORIES
A. Use nails of a size and type best suited for each application and in accordance with
ASTM F547. Use hot-dipped galvanized or aluminum nails for exterior applications. For siding, provide nails of sufficient length to extend 1-1/2 inches into supports, including wood sheathing over framing. Where nailing is impractical, provide screws of a size and type best suited for each application.

3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Provide shoulder joints in flat work. Reinforce backs of wide-faced miters with metal rings and waterproof glue. Unless otherwise indicated, provide fascia and other flat members 1 inch thick minimum. Provide braced, blocked, and rigidly anchored cornices for support and protection of vertical joints.
B. Provide panels with edges at joints spaced in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions and with all edges backed by framing members. Nail panels 3/8 inch from edges at 6 inches on center and at intermediate supports at 12 inches on center. Provide soffits in largest practical size. Align joints of plywood over centerlines of supports.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Source Limitations: Obtain ridge and shingles through one source from a single asphalt shingle manufacturer. Obtain felt underlayment and rubber membrane through one source from a single asphalt shingle manufacturer.
B. Fire-Test-Response Characteristics: Provide asphalt shingle and related roofing materials with the fire-test-response characteristics indicated, as determined by testing identical products per test method below by UL or another testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. Identify materials with appropriate markings of applicable testing and inspecting agency.
1. Exterior Fire-Test Exposure: Class A; ASTM E 108 or UL 790, for application and roof slopes indicated.
1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store roofing materials in a dry, well-ventilated, weathertight location according to asphalt shingle manufacturer’s written instructions. Store underlayment rolls on end on pallets or other raised surfaces. Do not double-stack rolls.
B. Handle, store, and place roofing materials in a manner to avoid significant or permanent damage to roof deck or structural supporting members.
C. Protect unused underlayment from weather, sunlight, and moisture when left overnight or when roofing work is not in progress.
1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Weather Limitations: Proceed with installation only when existing and forecasted weather conditions permit asphalt shingle roofing to be performed according to manufacturers’ written instructions and warranty requirements.
1.8 WARRANTY
A. Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or re- place asphalt shingles that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. Materials failures include manufacturing defects and failure of asphalt shingles to self-seal after a reasonable time.
1. Material Warranty Period: 40 years from date of Substantial Completion, pro-rated, with first 5 years non-prorated.

3.2 UNDERLAYMENT INSTALLATION

A. Self-Adhering Sheet Underlayment: Install self-adhering sheet underlayment, wrinkle free, on roof deck. Comply with low-temperature installation restrictions of underlayment manufacturer if applicable. Install at locations indicated, lapped in direction to shed water. Lap sides not less than 6 inches (89 mm). Lap ends not less than 6 inches (150 mm) staggered 24 inches (600 mm) between courses. Roll laps with roller. Cover underlayment within seven days.
1. Eaves: Extend form edges of eaves 36 inches (914 mm) beyond interior face of exterior wall.
2. Rakes: extend from edges of rake 36 inches (914 mm) beyond interior face of exterior wall.
3. Valleys: Extend from lowest to highest point on each side 36”. Provide second 36” wide layer directly on top of first layer and centered on valley.
4. Hips: Extend 18 inches (450 mm).
5. Ridges: Extend 36 inches (914 mm) each side without obstructing continuous ridge vent slot.
6. Equipment Supports and Roof-Penetrating Elements: Extend beyond penetrating element 18 inches and return vertically against penetrating element not less than 4 inches (100 mm), 36” in each direction at equipment supports.
7. Roof slope Transitions: Extend 36 inches on each roof slope – lap no less than 6 inches.
B. Double-Layer Felt Underlayment: Install double layer of 15# felt underlayment on roof deck perpendicular to roof slope in parallel courses, after underlayment has been installed. Install at locations indicated. Lap sides a minimum of 2 inches
(50 mm) over underlying course. Lap ends a minimum of 4 inches (100 mm).
Stagger end laps between succeeding courses at least 72 inches (1830 mm).
Fasten with felt underlayment nails.
1. Install felt underlayment on entire roof deck, on top of self-adhering sheet underlayment. Lap sides of felt over self-adhering sheet underlayment not less than 3 inches (75 mm) in direction to shed water. Lap ends of felt not less than 6 inches (150 mm) over self-adhering sheet underlayment.
3.3 WEATHER HEAD AND MASK
A. Weather head shall be installed between 18 and 24 inches above the roof.
Weather head shall be constructed and supported so that it will withstand the strain imposed by the line entering the building.
B. The electrical wiring going to the emergency siren can be spliced if need. The splice or splices if required shall be made in junction boxes in accordance with
National Electrical Code.
C. The fiber optic line shall not be spliced. The line shall be disconnected at one end and rerun through the accessories and reattached. If the existing fiber optic line would be to short for the new route a new fiber optic line shall be run meeting or exceeding the rating and capacity of the existing line.
D. All lines shall have a drip loop before entering the service cap.

3.4 ASPHALT SHINGLE INSTALLATION
A. Install asphalt shingles according to manufacturer's written instructions, recommendations in ARMA's "Residential Asphalt Roofing Manual," and asphalt shingle recommendations in NRCA's "The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing

B. Install starter strip along lowest roof edge, consisting of an asphalt shingle strip with tabs removed at least 7 inches (175 mm) wide with self-sealing strip face up at roof edge.
1. Extend asphalt shingles 1/2 inch (13 mm) over fascia at eaves and rakes.
2. Install starter strip along rake edge.
C. Install first and remaining courses of asphalt shingles stair stepping diagonally across roof deck with manufacturer's offset pattern at succeeding courses, maintaining uniform exposure.
D. Install first and remaining courses of asphalt shingles stair stepping diagonally across roof deck with manufacturer’s recommended offset pattern at succeeding courses, maintaining uniform exposure.
E. Fasten asphalt shingle strips with a minimum of six roofing nails located according to manufacturer’s written instructions.
1. Where roof slope exceeds 20:12, seal asphalt shingles with asphalt roofing cement spots after fastening with additional roofing nails.
2. Where roof slope is less than 4:12, seal asphalt shingles with asphalt roofing cement spots.
