About this file

This is an Item Purchase Description from the General Services Administration (GSA) for a Container Assembly for Sample and Specimen Shipping. The container is a fiberglass unit with olive drab coloration, measuring 17.00 inches wide, 22.25 inches long, and 11.38 inches high. It is designed to be used as a separate covered field box or as an insert drawer that can tray-slide into shipping boxes (PALCON or QUADCON), with included lids and handles located at each end. The container is watertight and specifically used with a related insert (NSN 8115-01-371-4882).

The document details specific packaging, marking, and quality assurance requirements. Packaging must comply with ASTM D3951 standards and protect against damage during shipment. Marking must follow FED-STD-123H for civilian destinations and MIL-STD-129R for military destinations, including bar code marking. The GSA policy emphasizes procurement preference for items with high post-consumer recovered material content. Quality assurance provisions require the product to meet commercial market standards, with materials uniformly fabricated, free from defects, and without contamination.
