About this file

This document is an Invitation to Negotiate (ITN) issued by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The purpose of the ITN is to identify a single provider to perform 9-locus genotyping of 1,900 DNA extracts from black bear hair and tooth samples to support the 2023 northern lower peninsula black bear population assessment. The analysis would utilize 8 markers from a previous project, as well as an additional microsatellite marker. The intended source for this work is Wildlife Genetics International, Inc. located in Nelson, British Columbia. The response deadline for any potential bidders who do not agree that this service is only available from the intended source is December 27, 2023.

This ITN does not provide details on pricing terms, set asides, incumbent providers, funding requirements or sources, or contract amounts. The sole focus is on identifying a single source provider for the specialized genetic analysis services required to maintain consistency with previous datasets and obtain additional recapture information for the population assessment.

9-locus genotyping of 1,900 DNA extracts from black bear hair and tooth samples. The analysis would use the 8 markers from project g2027 (7 microsatellites plus sex), as well as the microsatellite G10J. By utilizing Wildlife Genetics International to analyze black bear genetic samples for the northern lower peninsula 2023 population assessment, we will add to the previous (and growing) dataset the contractor has been developing for us through partnered research projects as well as previous northern lower peninsula population assessments. The genetic markers utilized by WGI results in unique data. In order to maintain consistency with earlier datasets and obtain additional recapture information for the population assessment, WGI has to perform the work.
