STATEMENT OF WORK

Ellex Absolu Ultrasound Console

A. INTRODUCTION:

The VA Boston Healthcare System Surgical Department, Optometry Section, located at the Brockton Campus, is requesting a replacement of their Ellex Absolu Ultrasound.

The Ellex Absolu Ultrasound Console is a critical tool in optometry, particularly for monitoring intraocular tumors and retinal detachments in patients with poor media. The recent breakdown of the ocular ultrasound in Brockton has left the facility without a backup, significantly impacting patient care.

This ultrasound device is essential for diagnosing and managing serious eye conditions, ensuring that patients receive the standard of care required. Currently, the lack of this equipment forces the referral of patients to the JP campus, causing inconvenience and additional stress for patients and their families.

mailto:pearl.wray@va.gov

The absence of a functional ocular ultrasound has resulted in substandard patient care, as the facility cannot perform necessary diagnostic procedures on-site. This investment is crucial for both short-term and long-term patient care, preventing the need for duplicate care and reducing the burden of long travel for patients.

The equipment is a standalone system not connected to the VA network. It is maintained by BioMed. If any issues arise with the equipment/item, the vendor representative will provide guidance to BioMed on how to mitigate those issues via phone/email/and/or in person. When on-site visits are required for installation/training, the vendor representative will be appropriately badged and escorted by Bio- Med/HTM personnel.
