EROS Science Center Design of Wastewater System Rehabilitation

STATEMENT OF WORK

The Department of Interior, USGS/Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota has a requirement for engineering services for, wastewater system rehabilitation located at the EROS Science Center, 47914 252nd Street, Sioux Falls SD 57198. The work will require a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of South Dakota.

I. BACKGROUND

The wastewater treatment facility began operation in 1973 and consists of a five-cell stabilization pond system.

Most of the wastewater flows by gravity to the treatment facility, with the exception of one lift station serving two bathrooms that were constructed in 1996. The facility treats about 14,000 gallons per day according to the SD DANR Statement of Basis.

Four of the treatment cells are located within the fenced-in property. The fifth cell is located east of the fencing

Attachment A – 140G0124Q0015 Page 4 of 31 and is a manmade dam designed to accept surface water. Cell 1 operating water surface is 0.54 acres and contains two surface aeration units, which are jet-type aerators that float on the pond. Cell 2 is 0.39 acres and is used for sedimentation. Cell 3 is 1.80 acres and cell 4 is 1.95 acres. Cell 5 is 14.22 acres in size. The ponds are operated in series. There are bypass structures and piping that have not been used in recent years.

In October 2019 cleaning and televising inspection was performed on collection system and treatment system pipes. A comprehensive wastewater survey study was performed by DGR Engineering. The wastewater survey study provides a summary of deficiencies that require corrective action, resulting in Wastewater System Rehabilitation design needs.

Provide all labor, materials, and equipment necessary for the accomplishment of work specified. Work includes, but is not limited to, the following:
