About this file
This is an illustrative guide to maintenance performance criteria for a right-of-way mowing and median maintenance contract in Zone 7 Celery Fields, Florida. The document serves as a visual reference for acceptable and unacceptable maintenance standards that contractors must meet when performing services on roadways, medians, sidewalks, and shoulders. The guide includes photographic examples demonstrating proper maintenance techniques such as appropriate mowing, trimming, edging, and vegetation removal to the edge of pavement and right-of-way lines. It emphasizes the removal of crack weeds from concrete edges, trimming along fence lines, clearing bike lanes, maintaining ditch lines up to the edge of right-of-way, and removing litter prior to mowing activities.
The document establishes clear performance expectations by contrasting acceptable work with examples of deficient maintenance. Proper maintenance standards require vegetation to be removed to reveal the full edge of pavement and striping, sidewalks to be edged with crack weeds removed within curbs and around inlets, and roadway shoulders with wide ditch lines to be maintained and mowed up to the fence line or power pole boundary. Poor performance examples illustrate inadequate trimming, incomplete edging, failure to remove litter, and insufficient vegetation removal along fence lines and pavement edges. These visual standards are intended to guide contractor performance throughout the three-year contract term and any subsequent renewal periods.

Example of appropriately mowed, trimmed and edged roadway with median and bike lane.
All vegetation removed to edge of pavement.
Example of appropriately maintained roadway shoulder with wide ditch line.
Example of poorly trimmed and edged sidewalk. Crack weeds should be removed on sidewalk, within curbs and around inlets. Edging should be performed on sidewalks.
Example of poorly trimmed sidewalk and fence line. Vegetation should be trimmed along County side of fence lines.
Example of poorly edged edge of pavement with bike lane. Vegetation should be removed to reveal edge of bike lane pavement.
Example of poorly edged edge of pavement without bike lane. Vegetation should be removed to reveal edge of pavement and striping.
Example of roadway with untrimmed edge of pavement. Edges of pavement are required to be trimmed and or edged.
Example of poor litter maintenance. Litter should be removed prior to mowing activities.
