PURCHASE ESTIMATE NUMBER: 32-12- 6570
It is the intent of this specification to describe the minimum requirements for a complete and integrated electro/mechanical hydraulic control snowplow(s), body hoist, and a hydraulic spreader system. The system must be capable of interfacing with Automatic Vehicle Location AVL systems for mobile data collection and transmission. Other vehicle equipment functionality such as a spreader control system(s) will include a ground speed-oriented, electric over hydraulic system to control auger, spinner, pre-wet, anti-ice and sprayer operations. The system shall be compatible with hydraulically operated, single-spinner, auger/conveyor, centrifugal tailgate sander, V-body sand/salt spreader or directional cast bodies where applicable, along with various spray bodies compatible with water, brine or herbicide. State forces will install the control system and hydraulic system.
The unit shall be the manufacturer's standard production model and can be modified to meet these specifications. It shall be equipped with all the manufacturer's standard equipment and accessories which are part of the standard published literature. If optional equipment is identified on the invitation for bid it shall only be supplied and installed where identified on the Individual Line Item.
Only technical changes authorized by the Division of Equipment Specification Engineer in writing will be accepted. Technical changes made by any other Division of Equipment, Caltrans or State employees will not be accepted. Any interpretation of the technical drawings or specifications shall only be provided by the Specification Engineer in writing. On its sole reference product in this specification or prints. Bidders should submit all documentation supporting their request to use alternate products or the referenced product may be denied.
The unit shall comply with Caltrans Equipment Quality Standards for Electrical, Welding, Paint and Coatings as defined at: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/eqsc/qualstand.htm.
Additional clarifications and factory engineering information may be submitted and will become a part of the bid.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
1. PUMP DRIVE: The hydraulic pump shall be a variable displacement piston pump with flow compensation and load-sensing. Ref: Sauer Danfoss Model 45, ER-L-100B-LS-18-24-NN- N-3-K5NP-A1N-AAA-NNN-NNN or equivalent with prior engineering approval. The pump shall have a minimum displacement of 6.1 cubic inches per revolution. The pumps pressure compensator shall be set at 2600 psi. The pump shall be rated for 5000 PSI maximum and 4000 PSI continuous. The pump shall be counterclockwise (CCW) rotation, side ports, SAE code 61 port minimum, SAE pilot and SAE flange standard mounting type with keyed shaft.
2. HYDRAULIC CONTROL VALVES: All hydraulic functionalities shall be accomplished with an integrated manifold / cartridge valve assembly, or of modular manifold design. There shall be a main system relief to protect the system from high pressure in case the pump compensator fails. The hydraulic control valves shall be pulse-width modulated, closed center, pressure adjustable, pressure compensation with load sense for flow sharing.
System shall incorporate post pressure compensation to achieve independent simultaneous operations across network. All electrically actuated valves shall have heavy-duty 12 VDC continuous duty coils and shall be equipped with a manual override for diagnostics or emergency operation.
All hydraulic valves excluding the pump unloader will be integrated into the valve enclosure. The power float / plow balance functionality (front plow only) shall be embedded into the valve enclosure without the need of plumbing external valves.
release residual pressures within the zero leakage circuits. These devices shall be utilized for all functions that are equipped with quick couplers including: plow angle, and spreader.
Porting on this device shall be of SAE type and sized appropriately to not impede the specified flow rates.
The spreader control valve assembly shall be composed of three (3) valves: 1) spread width/agitation valve, 2) pre-wet valve and 3) spread/spray rate valve. All ports shall be SAE "O" Ring type and sized for the designed flows. All components must be environmentally sealed and stainless fasteners shall be used. The valves shall be rated for 3,000-psi minimum. The valves will function as follows:
1) Spread width/agitation valve shall be an electronic, direct acting, proportional type. The valve shall have a flow range of 0 to 7 gallons per minute. The valve will be electronically controlled from the system spreader control in the cab via a pulse width modulated signal output. Work-ring.
1a) Spread width function hydraulic oil will be plumbed on the directional cast/brine bodies (DCB) for downstream use to supply the directional cast function.
1b) Agitation function hydraulic oil will be plumbed on the roll-off body for downstream use by an agitation pump on the roll-off spray or herbicide body.
Agitation rate must be an adjustment on the spreader control and is not vehicle speed dependent.
2) Pre-wet valve shall be an electronic, direct acting type, 2-position, 2-way, normally closed flow control, proportional type. The valve shall have a flow range of 0 to 10 gallons per minute. The valve will be electronically controlled from the system spreader control in the cab via a pulse width modulated signal output. Work-Port
3) Spread/spray rate valve shall be an electronic, direct acting, proportional type.
The valve shall have a flow range of 0 to 15 gallons per minute. The valve will be electronically controlled from the system spreader control in the cab via a pulse width modulated signal output. Work-
3a) Auger function hydraulic oil will be plumbed to the directional cast/brine bodies (DCB) for use as follows:
I. Within the DCB body, the oil will be valved to supply either the auger/conveyor system or the anti-ice pump. The controller shall be equipped with a dedicated output to switch functions between the two. The controller shall automatically actuate the valve based upon the operating mode selected by operator. Auger flow from the DCB will be routed to a selector valve (supplied by spreader body OEM) mounted on the directional cast body. Selector valve will be a minimum flow rate of 15 gallons a minute. The selector valve will route flow to either the auger/conveyor or anti-ice motor. The auger circuit shall be supplied with a check valve.
3b) Spray function will be plumbed to roll-off spray or herbicide bodies through the auger hydraulic circuit. Spray rate application on roll-off tanker spray bodies must be adjustable through spreader controller and must be roadway speed dependent. Spray rate application on roll-off herbicide bodies must be adjustable through the spreader controller, but the function is not adjustable based on vehicle speed.
The functional description and application requirements are as follows and shall be appropriately sized for intended use (all but one are double acting valves): Hydraulic relief valves shall be fully adjustable over a wide range of operating pressures up to and including 3600 psi continuous duty (5000 psi intermittent). All relief valves are to be factory pressure set to meet functionality requirements as a complete engineered PWM system to meet the performance application requirements, the functionality and operational requirements.
NOTE: An alternative design will be considered with prior engineering approval to meet the performance application requirements that meet the functionality and operational requirements.
