About this file

This document is an Invitation for Bid (IFB) 113-25 detailing the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) minimum insurance requirements for contractors. The document outlines comprehensive insurance specifications that contractors must maintain throughout the contract term, including Commercial General Liability, Automobile Liability, Workers' Compensation, Umbrella Liability, and Pollution Liability Insurance. Each insurance type has specific coverage requirements, with minimum limits ranging from $1,000,000 to $5,000,000 per occurrence or aggregate, depending on the insurance category.

The insurance requirements mandate that all policies be placed with Massachusetts-licensed insurance companies with a Best's rating of A- or better, must be primary and non-contributory to MBTA's insurance, and require 30 days advance written notice for cancellation. Contractors must provide certificates of insurance with the MBTA named as an additional insured, covering various operational risks including bodily injury, property damage, automobile use, workers' compensation, and environmental liability. The specifications are designed to protect the MBTA from potential financial risks associated with contractor activities, with particular attention to hazardous material handling and transportation.
