Grade and compact subgrade and if necessary, import base material to create a suitable site to support the Ice Rink. The finish grade of the base shall be above the surrounding area to assist with drainage.

The compaction of the subgrade material is incidental to the pay item. A modified proctor test will be required to determine the material’s maximum density and optimal moisture. The modified proctor test will be performed per ASTM D1557. Density testing is required at a frequency of 2 tests per each and every 1,000 SY increment of less of areas – with a minimum testing frequency of 2 tests per individual project area or phase. Density tests will be performed at random locations. Density reports and proctor test results are a required submittal. Compact the subgrade to at least 95% of maximum density, with the material between +2% and -4% of optimum moisture.
