PART 1 - GENERAL

For these Contract drawings, surveying and data collection were performed as follows:

1.1 EXISTING INFORMATION

USIBWC has provided a marked area in the construction limits that designates the location of

Station 1823+00. Construction limits shall be as designated on the Contract drawings.

1.2 FIELD SURVEY

Field survey was performed in November/December 2009 by RODS Surveying, Inc, who developed and provided the following, which were used as the basis of design.

A. Survey Control

(1) The surveyor established horizontal and vertical controls based on Texas State Plane

Central North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83) in feet and North American

Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88) in feet, respectively.

(2) Coordinates and elevations of survey were based on existing Benchmarks in the area, which are summarized on the Plan Sheet identified as “Survey and Horizontal

Control”. Plan sheets available upon request but not required for this project.

B. Existing Survey Markers.

The surveyor surveyed and located all existing levee centerline station survey markers.

The station markers included all Point of Curvature (P.C.) which are identified as

Beginning of Curve (BC) and End of Curve (EC) on the Contract drawings. For this project, Contractor to work in between field markers installed in field by USIBWC.

Station 1823+00 is clearly identified on marking sprayed on Department of Homeland

Security metal fencing on landside of levee.

C. Right of Way (ROW).

The surveyor surveyed and located all existing ROW survey markers along both sides of the levees and verified against the ROW maps in Paragraph (1) above. The surveyor installed new ROW markers, witness posts and pipes, as needed per the USIBWC survey guidelines. For this project, Contractor to work in between specified field stationing marked out in field. Work shall be performed on riverside of levee and within

Government property.

D. Existing Utility Survey.

(1) NOTE: IT IS THE CONTRACTOR’S RESPONSIBILITY TO VERIFY

LOCATIONS OF ALL EXISTING UTILITIES (SHOWN AND NOT SHOWN ON

THE CONTRACT DRAWINGS) PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.

(2) Additionally, attention is called to Specification 02.01.00 for additional requirements and guidelines for existing utility survey.

(1) Environmentally Sensitive Areas

a. Environmental Management Area as identified in the REC.

(2) Culturally Sensitive Areas

a. Environmental Management Area as identified in the REC.

(3) Biological Resources

a. Work should be schedule to occur outside of the bird breeding season whenever possible.

The breeding and nesting season is from March 1 through August 31. If work continues into the bird breeding season the areas proposed for disturbance will be surveyed in order to avoid the inadvertent destruction of nests and eggs

b. Project area should be surveyed for burrowing owls prior to project implementation. A constructed den is located at Station 1825+00. Refer to

Specification 00.31.50.

(4) Natural Resources

a. Equipment cannot be parked, staged, or used under large, mature trees. Keeping equipment away from the large, mature trees will prevent incidental damage to the tree and prevent compression of the root ball.

C. The Contractor shall review and comply with the requirements provided in the environmental documents. The documents are available for Contractor review at:
