Marathon Transmitter Station Medium Wave Transmission Coax Line System
Salient Characteristics / Technical Specifications (dated 3/14/2011)
This contract solicitation is for a 4” coaxial transmission line system for the Agency’s
100kW medium wave transmitter station at Marathon, Florida. This radio station broadcasts Radio Marti programming on 1180 kHz (AM broadcast band) with a directional array to Cuba. This primary function has been performed nonstop for over 25 years, with incremental improvements each year. It has been proven over time that the
AM broadcast band is the most effective (and cost-effective) means currently available to reach the Cuban populace with unbiased news and information.
Marathon Station's 100kW signal has recently been improved by the installation of a new solid-state 100kW transmitter which allows the station to broadcast at full power during all authorized hours, at a high modulation level. Our signal was further improved by the installation of four new towers. These incremental improvements will continue with our planned installation of an additional larger transmission line between the transmitter building and the towers to replace the current line, which is undersized for the current power level.
The transmission line system shall consist of the components listed in the included parts list, or be equivalent. This equivalency shall consist of an individual component equivalency, and also an assembled system equivalency.
Each individual transmission line component shall meet or exceed the electrical specifications for Myat 4.0625 “industry standard” rigid coaxial transmission line, including peak power, VSWR, and efficiency ratings.
Each individual transmission line component shall meet the physical specifications for
Myat 4.0625 “industry standard” rigid coaxial transmission line. The inner and outer conductors of the coaxial line shall be made of copper.
An exception to the Myat 4.0625 “industry standard” physical dimension specification exists for the Andrew HJ11-50 flexible transmission line, the Andrew H11FP-M408 /
H11FB-M408 connectors, and the MCI 224001A adapters (or their equivalents). These components (as a subsystem) adapt to the Myat 4.0625 “industry standard” rigid coaxial transmission line, and meet or exceed the electrical standards of that line.
All equivalent components, when assembled into a system shall collectively achieve the performance of a system assembled using the specified components, including peak power, VSWR, and efficiency ratings.
