About this file
This document is a federal procurement specification for braided cordage.
The specification details a braided Nomex sleeve with braided Kevlar core and polyurethane finish application. The core braid consists of PIA-C-87129-VI or equivalent Kevlar/Aramid cord with a minimum tensile strength of 750 lbs and 10/11 picks per inch. The sleeve braid requires 1600 denier Nomex yarn with one end per carrier, 16 bobbins per set, gears of 27-40-20-45, and 17-19 picks per inch, resulting in a final diameter of .125" or 1/8". The finished cordage weighs 4.4-4.7 lbs per 1000 feet, combining sleeve braid weight of 2.35-2.40 lbs per 1000 feet and core braid weight of 2.10-2.2 lbs per 1000 feet. A clear urethane finish is applied to the Nomex sleeve to facilitate field cutting. The cordage is shipped on spools measuring 7.5" x 6" at 1000 feet per spool. The NSN is 4020-LL-L270360 with CSR #857516125-SYN, original specification date of August 2012. The customer is DLA Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.
