1300858578

DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENT:

The Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT), utilizes the Amphenol Wilcoxon F4/F7 shaker systems to support vibration testing, predominantly in the

. These piezoelectric/electromagnetic shakers have been used successfully for years as a source of excitation within the 10 Hz to 20 kHz range. As our older units begin to wear and degrade in functionality, the addition of two new F4/F7 shakers will allow for a seamless transition in testing. The cost of the shakers is estimated at .

BRAND NAME SPECIFICATION:

The existing vibration testing infrastructure requires the use of the Amphenol Wilcoxon F4/F7 shaker to maintain compatibility with the existing system. These shakers are very portable and provide testing in the required test range. They are also are compact in size and can be easily mounted into test units. Other shaker systems are frame mounted and cannot be used in this manner. Transitioning to a different shaker manufacturer would require immense alterations to the test setup (mounting, cabling etc.), limit test configurations, and require approximately investment in equipment and labor costs. Opening this requirement to other commercial solutions would result in program schedule slippage and inability to support the planned tasking. The current method utilizing the F4/F7 shaker is well known and successful, while there is always risk of failure associated with using a new system that may present inaccuracies and inefficiencies. In order to maintain and receive testing support, the F4/F7 shakers must be acquired either directly from the manufacturer (Wilcoxon Sensing Technologies) or its authorized distributors.
