BRAND NAME SPECIFICATION

The TI16-TI18 HDD/SSD Carrier Combinations and Ship Set Media are assembled to baseline specifications and source control drawings, which were approved under Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Keyport (NUWCKPT) contract . One component of each type of TI16-TI18 Carrier Combination is an approved commercial Solid State Drive (SSD).

NAVSEA PMS-425 approved the specifications for the TI16-TI18 Carrier Combinations during research into a Form Fit Function alternative. Only the Memkor SSD met the TI16-TI18 program’s requirements, which also includes vendor specific controller firmware that conforms to the Information Assurance (IA) disk inventory software requirements for BYG-1 mass storage devices. Code 2514 does not have latitude to deviate from these specific models without incurring a lengthy and expensive requalification effort that would adversely impact the extensive supporting documentation/products, the Fleet installation schedule and more importantly, Fleet readiness.

Furthermore, the current Government requirement can only be met by approved Memkor SSDs in order to maintain compatibility with existing TI16-18 Carrier Combination configurations.

Failure to procure the Memkor SSD would severely affect BYG-1’s ability to support AN/BYG Virginia Class platforms. Any change from the original SSD would require and introduce extensive costs for qualification testing, baseline product changes, and is not authorized or funded. In addition, revisions to source control drawings would be required to incorporate new, compatible drives into the existing drawings. Configuring, re-testing, and approving a new SSD to be installed in the existing TI16-TI18 Carrier Combination configuration could take nine (9) to twelve (12) months and cost up to , which would ultimately impact the mission to
