About this file
This document is a Request for Bids for a concrete patching project on I-75 bridge approaches at the CSX Railroad in Saginaw County, Michigan. The project involves concrete pavement repairs, including matching the existing 10-inch and 9-inch concrete depths, on the northbound and southbound I-75 lanes and shoulders. The work is to be completed between April 23, 2024 and May 23, 2024. Traffic control and maintaining traffic flow are required during construction, with approved signing to reduce speeds to 45 mph where workers are present. The project is funded by MDOT Maintenance and will be awarded to the lowest qualified bidder.
The bid includes pay items for mobilization, pavement removal, aggregate base, various concrete joint types, epoxy-anchored lane ties, concrete pavement repair, pavement marking removal and application, and temporary traffic control devices. No overpayments or extras will be permitted, and the contractor must ensure all material, labor, and mobilization costs are included in their lump sum bid. MDOT reserves the right to reject any bid deemed unqualified and may request a site plan review meeting with the low bidder prior to award.

MDOT Maintenance Project Log
Job Location:
I-75 Bridge Approaches at CSX Railroad (1.7 miles south of M-83 (Birch Run Road), Birch Run Township, Saginaw County.
Job length: 0.40
Project Schedule:
Work may begin immediately after receiving approval from MDOT. Work to be completed between April 23, 2024, to May 23, 2024. Notice must be provided to Dan Senske at 989-233-1053 a minimum of three (3) calendar days prior to beginning work.
Description of work:
The work shall consist of concrete pavement repairs.
Northbound Lanes 1, 2, and northbound right shoulder shall be completed before work on Lanes 3 and 4. See plan drawing in proposal for Lane number designation.
The outside shoulder and first travel lane for both NB & SB I-75 is 10 inches thick and the inside 3 travel lanes and shoulder is 9 inches thick.
The pavement repair section will consist of matching the existing left in place concrete depth up to 10”.
For areas where existing concrete exceeds 10” in depth, additional aggregate base should be placed and compacted prior to placing concrete. The final repair shall be flush with the existing road surface and will match the existing cross slope.
A preconstruction meeting will be required. Concrete patches shall be laid out by Engineer.
Maintaining Traffic:
Contractor is allowed to do both northbound and southbound work at same time.
Contractor shall use approved traffic signing as approved by engineer to reduce traffic speed from 70 mph to 45 mph (where workers present) in the construction influence area.
Pay item “_Filling Shld Corrugations with Micro-Surface”, shall also include removal of material at completion of project.
Traffic control devices and equipment will be supplied and laid out by the contractor and should be maintained per typical 208–FW-2LC-(L)–MOD (included in this proposal) for lane shifts. Typical for right lanes closures and shift shall mirror typical
208–FW-2LC-(L)–MOD.
Work on Saturdays and Sundays will be at the Engineers discretion and require preapproval.
Once work is initiated that includes any lane restrictions, that work shall be continuous until completed. A lack of work activity (which does not include concrete cure time) for more than two calendar days will require the removal and replacement of lane restriction, at the Contractor's expense.
Daily maintenance of traffic control items will not be paid for separately but will be included in the lump sum price for the project.
The Contractor shall not create any unsafe conditions within the Construction Influence Area (CIA) that form a hazard for motorists. Extra caution should be used when delineating the work zone overnight to protect the roadway users.
This project is a Maintenance funded project, which means that there will be absolutely no overpayment or extras. All material, labor and mobilization shall be included in the bid.
MDOT will have the low bid reviewed and approved for funding. MDOT reserves the right to reject any bid that appears to be unqualified. Before award, MDOT may request a site plan review meeting with the low bid contractor.
