About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the acquisition of a hyperspectral imaging system for the Sugarbeet and Bean Research Unit's engineering research program at the Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service. The purpose of the system is to assess the maturity, quality, and growth conditions of horticultural crops in orchards and fields through spectral imaging in the 400-1000 nm wavelength range.
The key technical requirements for the hyperspectral imaging system include: wavelength range of 400-1,000 nm, at least 340 spectral bands, spatial pixels of at least 1024, CMOS camera sensor, pixel size of at least 5.8 um, aperture of f/2.5 or larger, maximum frame rate of 400 Hz or higher, 12-bit or higher image bit depth, USB 3.1 or higher interface, 0-50 degree C operating temperature range, and software development kits for integration. The system must be delivered within 3 months after the order is placed and have a 1-year warranty.

Statement of Work (SOW) Project: Hyperspectral Imaging System
GENERAL INFORMATION
1.0 Scope of Work: The purpose of this procurement is to acquire a hyperspectral imaging system for the engineering research program of the Sugarbeet and Bean Research Unit, which develops robotic harvesting and sensing systems for precision orchard assessment, harvest and postharvest quality evaluation of horticultural crops. This imaging system will be used for taking spectral images in the wavelengths of 400- 1000 nm from fruit orchards for assessing maturity and quality. The system is also useful for assessing the growth condition of plants in fields and/or greenhouses.
2.0 Background: The engineering research program of the SBRU unit, including both engineering and sugarbeet
CRIS projects, conducts research in the development of robotic harvesting, phenotyping and sensing systems. To accurately assess maturity and quality of fruit and crops in orchards and/or fields, a hyperspectral imaging system is needed, since it can provide both spectral and spatial information. Such a system will greatly enhance our capabilities for real-time assessment of fruits and plants for quality, health, and other physiological conditions.
