About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the United States Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory (USAARL) on behalf of the United States Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA). The RFI seeks information on procuring a FARO coordinate measuring machine (CMM) consisting of a multi-axis arm and a laser line probe to support USAARL's research activities. The RFI outlines the Minimum Essential Characteristics (MECs) for the CMM, including a working range of at least 8ft, max unilateral error of 0.028mm, 7-axis arm, interchangeable components, and compatibility with USAARL's existing FARO equipment. The RFI also requests ancillary equipment such as a battery, laptop, tripod, stand, and cables, as well as training and an extended warranty. Interested parties are asked to confirm availability of the requested products, provide verification of authorized FARO reseller status, and submit their capability statement by August 29, 2024. This RFI is for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation or obligation on the part of the government.

This requirement is a supply acquisition on behalf of U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory (USAARL) Injury Biomechanics and Protection Group (IBPG). USAARL IBPG requires procurement of a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) consisting of a multi-axis arm and a laser line probe (LLP) to upgrade and replace one of the current existing CMMs (FARO Platinum) and aid in research activities that will be performed in the ballistics research range. A FARO CMM is desired in order to ensure functional compatibility with the existing FARO software and hardware currently at USAARL.
This requirement is for one (1) FARO Technologies, Inc. (FARO) Quantum S MAX 2.5m 7 axis with a max unilateral error less than 0.028mm for single point measurements, as defined by ISO 10360-12. The FARO Quantum requires a working range of at least 8ft nominally (2.5m) and must have interchangeable components (laptops, proprietary software, and accessories) with USAARL’s existing FARO Platinum CMM system. Also required is ancillary equipment such as a battery, laptop, tripod, stand, and cables.
Lastly, training for a minimum of four (4) operators and an extended warranty are also required. Refer to the Minimum Essential Characteristics (MECs) listed in Section 8.
