HSCG87-10-B-PJT001 Page 1 of 3 Questions and Answers
Hinchinbrook:
1. What type of roofing is present at Hinchinbrook where the patching is to take place?
ANSWER: The roof is made of 5" reinforced concrete painted red.
2. We are curious if we have to supply a junction box if the existing wires from the floor will not have enough slack to make the new connections?
ANSWER: Yes. This is covered by spec section 1.2.
3. Communications: Scope tells us of phones in both sites. Will we be able to use phones in both locations? Are there any limitations to using the phones? Costs? Do cell phones work at Hinchinbrook?
ANSWER: No cell phone reception at Hinchinbrook. The phone can be used by the contractor, but all calls must be made with a calling card.
Currently, the phone at Hinchinbrook does not ring, so calls can not be received there. Non work related phone use should be minimized.
4. Wall construction details: There is a new supply air fan to be installed in the exterior wall. Please provide wall thickness and what the wall is made of.
ANSWER: The wall is made of 8" reinforced concrete in between 14" thick columns. The former window spaces have been filled in with 8" cement block. Blocked in window areas exist near the house generator and the station generators.
5. What type of breakers are existing? Manufacturer, style, size?
ANSWER: See reference dwg 105-10 sheet 41 for bill of materials that includes breakers (in "Ref Set - BOREAL Dwgs 105-10 [revised 29 Sep].pdf"). Breakers are Square D QOB.
6. Regarding the Maintenance Contract that goes with the work, and how long is the Maintenance Contract for?
ANSWER: This question refers to spec section 5.4 C. This section did not intend to define an annual maintenance contract, rather it was describing a one-time maintenance on the system as per the O & M manual, 'annual maintenance for month 0' section.
Section 5.4 C could be rewritten to clarify this point:
Perform one-time maintenance on the SCADA System as defined in the 'annual maintenance for Month 0' section of the operations and maintenance manual for the SCADA system. This maintenance will include fully testing all sensors and simulating generator failures to show that the system successfully starts and puts on line the backup generators.

Potato Point:
1. Will new generator exhaust fit in existing wall thimble hole?
ANSWER: Yes.
2. What type of breakers are existing? Manufacturer, style, size?
ANSWER: See reference dwg 105-16 sheet 41 for bill of materials that includes breakers. Breakers are Square D QOB.
3. Will old generator fit through existing door?
ANSWER: yes
4. What size is the roof hatch?
ANSWER: Approximately 24" x 30".
5. Existing door size – 36”?
ANSWER: Yes. However actual opening with trim in place is 35".
6. If door does not need to be replaced and all materials fit through the door, does the concrete ramp/landing need to be replaced?
ANSWER: Yes. Ramp is to facilitate heavy equipment handling in and out of building.
7. Communications: Scope tells us of phones in both sites. Will we be able to use phones in both locations? Are there any limitations to using the phones? Costs? Do cell phones work at Potato Point?
ANSWER: No cell phone reception at Potato Point. The phone can be used by the contractor, but all calls must be made with a calling card. Non work related phone use should be minimized.
8. Is it the intent to replace the door to the generator building at Potato Point even if the new generators will fit through the door? The Caterpillar generators Model D30-10 that are called out in the specifications show a overall width of 28.11 inches and height of 55 inches.
ANSWER: yes, replace the door regardless of generator size.
9. At Potato Point, we would like to know what size conductor comes out of the existing house generator. This will clarify whether or not a contractor has to replace the conductors from generator to control panel, which can expensive. If not, it will clarify and save USCG money and we can re-use existing conductor.
ANSWER: The question has a typo. There is no 'house generator' at Potato Point, however there is one at Cape Hinchinbrook. At Hinchinbrook, the conductors from the generator to the switchgear are #1 AWG. The distance from the gen to the switchgear is approximately 10 feet, for the conductor length I'd estimate 25 feet are needed. At Potato Point, the conductors from the generators to the switchgear are

#2 AWG. These details are in the reference drawings 105-10 and 105-16, dwg 8 for both.
