3.2 General information.
3.2.1 The Fixed CO2 Systems and Chemetron Fire Master 200 Heptafluropropane Fixed Flooding
Systems onboard the cutter are described in CG Tech Pub 7525. The CO2 systems and FM 200 systems are shown in Figure FO-2 and FO-3 in CG Tech Pub 7525. Additional information on design and location may be found in CG Dwg 750-WMSL-555-008 and CG Dwg 750-WMSL-801-001 and 750-
WMSL-100-001. A brief description of the installed systems is listed below:
3.2.2 Chemetron High Pressure CO2 System. The Main Gas Turbine Enclosure is protected by a
Chemetron Manufactured high pressure CO2 Fire Suppression System. The system is equipped with four
(4) 50 lb. CO2 cylinders. The system has a time delay relay and is capable of activation from three (3) separate locations. Activation of the system shuts down the cooling fans, closes the ventilation dampers, and closes the fuel shout off valves. The system has a visual and audible alarm and a time delay. The system is shown in Figure FO-2 of CG Tech Pub 7525 and CG Tech Pub 7118.
3.2.3 Chemetron Fire Master 200 Heptafluropropane Fixed Flooding Systems. There are three (3) separate FM 200 flooding systems. Each FM 200 system protects a separate compartment. The Paint
Locker, HAZMAT Stowage Locker, and Flammable Liquid Storage Locker are each equipped with a separate FM 200 System. Each FM 200 system consists of one (1) FM 200 storage tank and a manual activation station. Each system also has two (2) pressure switches which shut down ventilation to each compartment and which sound an alarm at the MCMS console. Each system has a visual and audible alarm. The systems are not equipped with time delays. The three (3) systems are shown in Figure FO-3 of CG Tech Pub 7525.
3.2.4 Galley Grease Fire Suppression System. A wet chemical cartridge operated potassium carbonate fire suppression system has been installed to protect the deep fat fryer area in the galley. The system is an
ANSUL R-102 Fire Suppression System and consists of two 3 gallon tanks, one 1 gallon tank, fusible link assemblies, piping and two manual operating stations. The system is described in CG Tech Pub 7427.
3.3 Work guidance.
3.3.1 Perform annual inspection work on the installed fire protection system. Guidance for the applicable work is found in 46 CFR 132.350 and includes weighing all affected cylinders, testing time delays, alarm
/ shut downs and inspecting the physical condition of each system, including hoses and nozzles to ensure that they are clean and in good condition.
3.3.2 Guidance on test certification allowances and safety procedures may be found in CG Tech Pubs
7525, 7118, and 7427.
3.3.3 Submit a CFR noting the weight of each cylinder inspected, the most recent hydrostatic test date of each cylinder, the condition of all flexible hoses, and date each hose was last renewed.
3.4 Maintenance actions.
3.4.1 Inspect, jointly with the Coast Guard Representative, the Main Gas Turbine Enclosure Fixed CO2 system, each of the three (3) fixed FM 200 systems, and the galley grease fire suppression system.
Inspect all affected equipment and systems as well as the cleanliness and condition of affected spaces
15 (Rev-0) prior to starting work to document original condition. Submit a Condition Found Report for each affected space noting the condition of the spaces and any discrepancies in equipment and system operation. Any repairs needed, as a result of inspection may be the subject of a contract change. Inspect, jointly with the
Coast Guard Representative, to verify cleanliness and condition of all affected spaces, equipment and systems after completion of work.
3.4.2 CO2 systems. - Provide the services of an experienced Chemetron Technical Representative to perform annual and semi-annual inspections on the installed fixed CO2 System. These semi-annual and annual services are described in CG Tech Pub7118, Paragraph 5.13 through Paragraph 5.20. The
Contractor shall complete all semi-annual and annual services described in CG Tech Pub 7118, paragraphs 5.13 through 5.20. The semi-annual and annual inspections will include the following actions:
3.4.2.1 Notify the Ship’s Engineer of the Watch prior to commencing testing and inspection of fixed
CO2 systems
3.4.2.2 Disable the automatic and manual activation releases of each system being inspected.
3.4.2.3 Submit a CFR with the date each CO2 cylinder was last hydrostatically tested. Inspect and weigh
CO2 bottles.
NOTE
An installed or stowed compressed gas cylinder that has not been disturbed or discharged may remain installed or stowed up to 12 years from its previous date of hydrostatic testing. When 12 years have elapsed, the cylinder shall be removed from service, discharged, and hydrostatically tested before being returned to service.
3.4.2.4 The Contractor shall remove covers to all pressure switches. Manually test each pressure switch for time delay relays. Ensure that pressure switch is bypassed during pressure test to avoid damage.
3.4.2.5 Inspect and test the automatic and manual release mechanisms on all fixed CO2 Systems.
3.4.2.6 Inspect the discharge heads on each cylinder and the high pressure flexible discharge hose assemblies. Submit a CFR with the condition of all flexible hoses and when each hose was last renewed.
NOTE
High pressure hoses must be hydrostatically tested every 5 years
3.4.2.7 Test operation of all associated electrical circuits including alarm circuits and ventilation shut-downs.
3.4.2.8 Test all piping to ensure there are no clogs.
