Single Point Davit Constant Tension Testing Procedures as Presented by Technicians from Allied Systems
Step 1: Energize the davit and lower the hook to an appropriate height to be tied.
Step 2: Tie the hook to a fixed point on the deck.
· Recommend using triple braid nylon line with a taught-line hitch.
· Ensure that the line goes through the handle of the davit’s hook.
· Ensure that the wire rope is as vertical as possible.
· SHERMAN used the tying system pictured below to accomplish the requirements above.
Step 3: Using the winch controls, reel in the cable until there is sufficient tension in the line so that the tension indicator engages (pictured below).
Step 4: Press the Constant Tension (CT) button.
· At this point the indicator light should illuminate indicating that CT is on.
· Although CT has been selected it should not fully engage yet.
Step 5: Using the winch, slack the line until the tension indicator disengages.
· At this point CT should be engaged.
Step 6: Have someone physically pull down on the cable.
· When CT is properly set to its minimum tension setting, someone should be able to pull out the cable with about 50lbs of force.
· If the above does not work, then either constant tension is not working or the minimum tension is not properly set. In the consol there is a small potentiometer that can be adjusted to correct the minimum tension.
· From that point, you should be able to adjust the tension from the winch control joystick.
