SECTION 01 11 00 - GENERAL PARAGRAPHS

PART 1 GENERAL:

1.1 PROJECT BRIEF: The intent of this project is to safely and properly remove and properly dispose of approximately 1000 sq ft of red and black colored carpeting inside of Building 261 Theater. The existing carpet has been laid over remnants of mastic that still contains asbestos from a previous VAT or carpet removal project.

Limited initial testing of the mastic material shows that it still contains 5% Chryso-tile Asbestos. The cutting of various holes or ripping up sections of carpeting throughout the entire theater to perform a comprehensive investigation was not permitted due to safety concerns for the patrons and staff. It should be noted that the Theater is still currently in operation and used daily. The Theater will be closed for the duration of the carpet and mastic removal.

This Theater is used daily and by people of all ages and therefore AIR CLEARANCE TESTING is going to be required and must pass in order to prove that the indoor environment is suitable for occupancy.

The TRACEN Facilities Engineering Maintenance Department will remove the pop-corn machine, desk, shelving and cabinets that are moveable out of the way, prior to the start of the abatement work.

The abatement contractor will be allowed to cordon off as much of the parking lot in front of the Theater deemed necessary to set up the containment structure(s), staging of support equipment and the disposal dumpsters/containers.

1.2 PROJECT BACKGROUND: The Building 261 Theater underwent a renovation in the summer of 2007 and at that time records show that some VAT and Mastic were abated in the lobby and office/popcorn/refreshment room. Sampling results show that there are still some areas that contain mastic with Asbestos.

1.3 LOCATION: Project site is located in the TRACEN Town Center, Building 261 Thea-ter at Training Center, Petaluma, CA.

DKCoons Callout OFFICE/POPCORN/REFRESHMENT ROOM - Carpet is to be removed and thoroughly cleaned.

DKCoons Callout Cleaning Gear Room - Carpet is to remain

DKCoons Callout This is a older drawing and the carpeted area from the entry sliding glass doors to the auditorium doors has been replaced with ceramic tile.

DKCoons Line

DKCoons Callout Underneath all 3 seating sections is painted concrete floor.
