• Remove the bow cover to the point that the 5 inch access holes in the bow are exposed. You do not need to completely remove it from the boat. Unlacing it should be sufficient.
• Remove the 5 inch diameter cover plates from the access holes. Use a 9/16 open end wrench or socket to remove the nuts from the 4 bolts located inside the bow. These will release the bow tension ring from the interior flange.
• Remove rods located in the upper extrusion. Install the provided screw eye into the end of the upper rod located aft of the collar side cut out. Pull the rod out, use the provided 1inch strap to aid in pulling the rod out if you are unable to remove it by hand.
• Use the same process on the forward upper rod.
• With the upper rods removed, pull the upper portion of the collar out of the extrusion letting it fall pen to allow access to the foam.
• Remove all foam sections and set aside.
• Slide the collar out of the lower channel by pulling it aft.
• Place the collar flat on the ground and remove the rod from the lower pocket of the collar by attaching a screw eye into the rear of the collar and pulling out the aft end of the pocket using a strap or rope.
• Remove the bow ring from the forward end of the collar using a 7/16 wrench or socket as required.
• Be sure to save all hardware and capture plates for the next installation. Bolts and threaded inserts can be replaced as required for the next installation.

3.4 Government-furnished property. The Contractor shall be aware that the government reserves the right to provide new fender sections when a benefit to the US Coast Guard can be obtained.
19 (Rev-0)
3.5 Installation. The Contractor shall install the fendering system (Collar) as follows using Coast Guard Drawing 42 SPC-NLB 114-050 as a reference:
• Place one of the compression bladders flat on the ground with the valve facing down.
• Place one compression panel on top of the bladder.
• Place one foam section on top of the panel. Center the foam and place a second panel on top of the foam.
• Lay a second compression bladder on top of the foam, centering it.
• Slide the entire assembly into a Compression Sleeve. Locating the air valves in the cut out provided in the compression tube.
• Repeat above steps for the remaining sections of foam.
• Use the provided air pump to begin filling the bladders. When filling the bladders
Alternate between the two sides in order to keep them roughly the same size.
Compression will be more effective if the bladders remain balanced in size and pressure. When the bladders have equalized in size begin elevating the pressure in them to 5-7 P.S.I. Check the pressure frequently as you inflate in order to not over fill them. Do not inflate over 7 P.S.I.
• When the pressure has reached desired level note the time and set the foam aside.
Check the air pressure of the bladders every 20-30 minutes, fill as needed to maintain at least 3-3.5 P.S.I throughout the duration of the compression.
• While the foam is under compression begin installing the membrane onto the hull.
Start by spraying silicone into the lower extrusion of the side you are installing.
• Attach the bow tension ring to the membrane. Center the end of the membrane on the ring and attach using contractor provided SS bolts and Nyloc nuts. Start from the middle of the ring and work outward in both directions in order to keep the membrane centered on the ring. Keep the fabric tight as you install the flat bar capture band in order to ensure a wrinkle free fit.
• Insert the lower 3/4 inch keeper rod into the lower pocket of the membrane. Spray a silicon or similar lubricant into the pocket and onto the rod as it is pushed in.
• With the rod in the lower pocket, insert the lower pocket of the membrane into the aft of the lower extrusion. Pull the collar into the extrusion with one person guiding it and two people pulling the collar forward.
• Insert the Bow Attachment ring into the bow as the collar is slid into position. Install contractor provided SS hardware.
• With the Bow Attachment flange loosely located, go to the aft of the collar and using the provided pull strap, pull the collar back into position so the cone seam lines up with the end of the extrusion.
• With the seam located and held into place install a #12 x 1-1/2 inch contractor provided SS screw through the lower extrusion and into the lower keeper rod.
• Starting at the bow begin tucking the upper rod pocket into the extrusion. Work your way from the bow to the forward side of the personnel recovery cut out. Do not tuck the pocket aft.
• With the pocket tucked into the upper extrusion, insert the Forward Upper Keeper Rod into the pocket through the access hole located on the forward side of the PRC.
Spray silicon onto the rod and into the pocket as it is pushed into the pocket.
20 (Rev-0)
• If using the existing foam it will be necessary to cut the 6 inch x 6 inch wide sections of foam off the back of the main foam sections.
• A saw can be used to shave the foam off. If a short saw is used it may be necessary to slice the 4 inch thick foam down the middle.
• With the existing foam removed clean the back of the main foam sections with a broom or brush.
• Mask the upper and lower edges of the foam with contractor provided 2 inch masking.
• Spray the exposed area with the contractor provided foam adhesive.
• Remove all sections of foam from the compression tubes and place the compressed foam on the main foam sections and press firmly into position with your foot or knee to ensure full contact.
• Open the collar up as much as possible. Spray silicon into the forward portion of the collar. Coat the inside of the fabric.
• Place the long section of foam on the ground against a wall.
• Spray the end with adhesive.
• Spray the end of the short section of foam (contains side cut out) with the adhesive.
• Butt the end of the short foam to the long foam and press the two together aligning the ends to avoid a step or bump in the joint.
• Hold for 3-5 minutes.
• When the adhesive has set, place the forward end of the foam into the collar and push it in to position. It may take 4-5 people in order to properly support and push the foam all the way in.
• Push the foam in until the side cut out of the hull aligns with the side cut out of the foam. It may be necessary to use a dead blow hammer to knock it into position.
• With the fabric pulled into place over the foam begin pulling the cover up as tightly as possible and inserting the webbing loops of the upper lacing panel through the grommets in the upper edge of the fabric. A length of rope or webbing through the grommets will aid with leverage. Starting in the middle of the bow cover begin lacing in both directions by forming a chain with the webbing loops. Pull the loops tight until the webbing loop it passes through is centered over the grommet below it. Lace the upper lacing panel as tight as possible at this time.
• Lace the chain of webbing up and finish on top of the bow using the open loops of web to tie the upper and side lacing panels into place
• Once fabric has been laced firmly attach Velcro seal over binding seam.
NOTE
