3.4.2 Soluble salt level or conductivity measurements. In addition, as part of the preservation of “critically-coated” surfaces, with the exception of potable water tanks, the Contractor shall measure soluble salt levels or conductivity due to soluble salts, randomly over the prepared surfaces (take 5 measurements every 1,000 ft2, or 5 total measurements for surfaces less than 1,000 ft2), using a suitable surface contamination analysis equipment. If levels of soluble salts or conductivity due to soluble salts exceed the requirements specified in Table I (Soluble Salt Threshold), wash down the affected areas, using fresh water at a pressure of 2000-3000 psi, paying particular attention to crevices, pits, welds, and reverse faces of beams. Remove all standing water and dry all affected areas, as applicable. Repeat testing and wash down procedures, until satisfactory levels are obtained.
