TOOL AND PARTS ATTENDANT

SUMMARY OF THE MEDICAL STANDARDS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical and medical requirements for the Tool and Parts Attendant position are based on the strenuous and potentially hazardous nature of the duties typically performed.

Any medical or psychiatric condition may result in the candidate s medical disqualification under certain circumstances. Such circumstances exist when: the condition would affect the ability of the individual to safely and efficiently perform the essential functions of the position, recurrence of the condition cannot be ruled out, and/or performance of the position s duties is likely to result in harm to self or others. The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection determines an individual s medical suitability for the position and does so on a case by case basis.

Description of Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions

The Tool and Parts Attendant s duties include, but are not limited to, the acquisition, receipt, storage and disposal of automotive and maintenance equipment. The Tool and Parts Attendant position requires the individual to stand on hard surfaces and to stoop, bend and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The ability to safely and efficiently lift and carry tools, parts and supplies weighing up to ten pounds is required as is the occasional handling of items weighing up to 100 pounds, such as bags of concrete. Hand trucks, dollies and other workers are available for assistance with heavier items.

The individual is expected to be able to operate computer equipment and a variety of mechanical devices and to possess reasonable oral and written comprehension and communications skills.

Work is generally performed indoors, but the inside areas may be drafty, dirty, dusty and greasy. There is significant exposure to the risk of cuts, scrapes and bruises in this environment.
