The physical and medical requirements for the aircraft mechanic position are based on the strenuous and potentially hazardous nature of the duties typically performed. Any medical or psychiatric condition may result in the candidate s medical disqualification under certain circumstances. Such circumstances exist when the condition would affect the ability of the individual to safely and efficiently perform the essential functions of the position, recurrence of the condition cannot be ruled out, and/or performance of the position s duties is likely to result in harm to self or others. The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection determines an individual s medical suitability for the position and does so on a case by case basis.

Driving and operating a variety of ground support vehicles and equipment on and off the duty location is routine. Shift work, call back and emergency overtime may also be regular requirements of the position.
