ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical requirements of the Engineering Equipment Operator position are based on the strenuous and potentially hazardous nature of the duties typically performed.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions

The Engineering Equipment Operator s duties include, but are not limited to, the construction and maintenance of roads and fences, particularly along the International Boundary. Duties require that the employee be in excellent physical condition and possess better than average strength. Heavy lifting and hauling and other types of manual labor are routine demands of the position. Duties often require long periods of sitting, standing, bending, climbing, crouching and crawling in restricted and cramped spaces.

The ability to safely and efficiently operate and perform routine maintenance on various types of heavy mobile equipment such as tractors sweepers, concrete mixers, etc. is also a requirement of the position. The individual in the Engineering Equipment Operator position is expected to possess a valid commercial driver s license.

The Engineering Equipment Operator must possess good balance, and good eye-hand coordination and dexterity. He/she must have reasonable communication skills and be able to work alone or with others, sometimes with minimal supervision. Shift work may be required as may regular and recurring overtime, including weekends, holidays and nights.

Work may be performed in a variety of locations; however, the majority of duties are performed outdoors. There is often exposure to extremes of climate and weather and to exhaust fumes and other environmental toxins. Such hazardous conditions place the employee at significant risk of injury and/or respiratory compromise; he/she is expected to adhere to a variety of prescribed safety procedures in order to diminish that risk.
