Q&A – 22-2D1: Fabrication & Assembly of Circuit Card
1. Part Number JAN1N750A isn’t available in the market right now. One supplier had 98 in stock.
Lead time is stating 52 weeks. Could JANTX1N750A-1 possibly be used for an ALT?
ANSWER: Yes, the JANTX1N750-1 is fine as an alternate.
2. Part number JAN1N5619 is not currently in stock in the market as well, but have an expected date of January 2nd, 2023, which will probably be an issue as well.
ANSWER: January 2nd 2023 lead time is fine.
3. Part Number TB62701AN is not in the market as well. The only place we did find these available were from a broker, would that be a possibility? Is there a possible ALT you could suggest?
Would AS6081 full testing need to be performed? Suggesting MAX6969ANG+ as an alternate part. It may require adjustment to resistors R4 and R11 as the constant current control curves look slightly different between the Maxim and Toshiba part ANSWER: Broker is fine as long as a Certificate of Conformance/Compliance is included. No possible alternate. No, AS6081 testing is not needed. No, MAX6969ANG+ cannot be used as an alternate.
4. They are also calling out wire on the Bill of Material, could you provide more information on the wire? No real indication where its placed or how. Solder?
ANSWER: DMEA will strip and solder the wire to the cards. The Contractor just needs to quote it and buy it.
5. JP1, on the schematic shows a jumper to be installed but this is not on the BOM. Please advise.
ANSWER: The customer’s BOM listed part M81044/12-26-9 and M22759-11-24-9 as the material to use for the jumpers; one is used for jumper JP1 and the other to jump Q2 collector to emitter. DMEA will be using part “BUSS 24” as the jumper wire and MIL-I-22129 (SWT-24-
6) from Ryan Electronics as the flexible PTFE tubing.
6. H9001-01 Terminal stud, 5 per, the BOM does on show the RSN. (maybe E1-E5?)
ANSWER: The customer’s BOM listed the terminal studs (turrets) as Part AA59126/2905, but cannot be found. DMEA will be using Part H9001-01 as the terminal STUDs (turrets).
7. M81044/12-26-9 26 electrical wire 100’ and M22759-11-24-9 24 hook up wire, the BOM does not show the RSN. Do we ship the spools with the assembles? Please advise.
ANSWER: DMEA will replace “M81044/12-26-9 26 electrical wire 100’ and M22759-11-24-9 24 hook up wire” as the material used on JP1 and Q2 with part “Buss 24” jumper wire and part “M22759-11-24-9” flexible tubing.
8. The BOM show the 15KPA18A, TVS diode highlighted in yellow. Is there a reason?
ANSWER: Please ignore – there is no reason for the yellow highlight on 15KPA18A.
9. The gerber zip file did not have the fab drawing notes but we found the answers on the “ headsup display fab description”.
ANSWER: See the “headsup display fab description.”
10. Do you need us to make two quotes; one for prototypes and another for the 105 PCBA ANSWER: One quote for 105 PCBAs – Fabrication of cards, Assembly, Confromal Coating.
DMEA would like to get 5 assembled parts without conformal coating for DMEA to test initially. Once okay, DMEA will send them back and the remaining 100 can be assembled and conformally coated along with the other 5.
11. Can we use our own format/fomr to submit the quotes?
ANSWER: Yes – Please be sure to cover all CLINs.
12. For item No. 0001 under RFQ_HQ072722RMM14, Electronics Components andRivets > I did not find rivets listed in the BOM, do we need to provide rivets? If yes, please advise part# and quantity FFP Electronics Components and Rivets to build 105 Circuit Cards FOB: Destination ANSWER: The “rivets” refer to the H9001-1 Terminal Studs on the BOM.
13. For item No. 0002 Fabrication> We do not directly manufacture Bare Printed Circuit Boards > We use ITAR compliant manufacturer. FFP Fabrication of 105 Bare Printed Circuit Boards FOB:
Destination.
ANSWER: That’s fine – DMEA just needs bare boards manufactured and then assembled.
NOTE that the contractor needs to source the components.
14. Normally the assembly drawing would have notes specific to the build such as what type of process to use Leaded verse Rohs or Lead Free, and if any parts need special attention. Also, for conformal coating the assy drawing would have the hatched areas for the coating portion on what they need to mask and what not etc.
ANSWER: Very good point, but we have not completed the Technical Data Package (TDP) yet.
For conformal coating, please consider the worst case scenario for the quote. This is an older circuit card hence assume leaded.
15. Within RFQ section 3.3.1.5 on conformal coating are we expected just to quote the material and deliver the assembled boards first to DMEA for testing and later DMEA sends the boards back to us to coat? Or do we still complete the coating and send assembled/coated boards to DMEA?
We have capability for functional testing at Naprotek if that is a service you want us to do and quote? Who is the engineering person for this project?
ANSWER: Quote the material and assemble 5 units without conformal coating. Send the 5 units to DMEA for test and once they pass, build the remaining 100 cards and conformal coat all 105 units.
16. 3.3.1.5 Conformal Coating (Limited Production): Each Limited Production CCA shall be conformally coated using coating material, type Mil-I-46058C UR, Humiseal 1A33 after cleaning each card using isopropyl alcohol (IPA)/Deionized (DI) water. Light to moderate coats shall be applied to build thickness.Note that conformal coating shall be performed after DMEA functional testing of the CCAs. The Contractor shall procure the conformal coating material
ANSWER: Thanks for pointing this out DMEA would like to have 5 cards assembled initially and sent to DMEA for test WITHOUT conformal coating. If all is well. DMEA will ask the contractor to build the remaining 100.
17. For this section, it references that DMEA shall do the Fab testing before we order 105 PCBs is that portion done and Naprotek can move forward once we win PO to buy all 105? 3.3.1.2 PCB Fabrication (Limited Production):After DMEA tests the Production Representative CCA and test results are satisfactory, the Contractor shall fabricate one hundred and five (105) bare PCBs. The PCBs shall be fabricated using FR-4 material ANSWER: The Production Representative CCA refers to the 5 units that are not conformally coated. Once satisfactory, the Contractor will manufacture the remaining 100 units and conformally coat all 105 units.
18. With reference to the Para. 3.3.1.2 below, what does “tests the Production Representative” means? Could you please explain. 3.3.1.2 PCB Fabrication (Limited Production): After DMEA tests the Production Representative CCA and test results are satisfactory, the Contractor shall fabricate one hundred and five (105) bare PCBs. The PCBs shall be fabricated using FR-4 material.
ANSWER: We have this project split out into two phases. One is “prototyping” and then “production.” We’ve been calling “prototypes” “production representative” and “production” “limited production.” The Production Representative CCA will not have conformal coating and will allow DMEA to easily test the assembled CCA. If there are any layout design errors, DMEA will update (fix) the layout files and submit to the Contractor to build the Limited Production units.
19. Will material be consigned by DMEA?
ANSWER: No, Contractor shall source the material on the BOM.
20. We noticed that Fabs are at class 3 and Assembly is at class 2 in the document. Is that correct?
ANSWER: That is correct.
