IV. Statutory Authority and Rationale for Authority Cited: FAR 8.405-6(b)(1) Brand Name

The DAU Operations Support Directorate requires the procurement of brand name Steelcase Media Scape modular furniture for our newly acquired DAU Information Technology Support department workspace area in building 219. Federal contracting was used to obtain Steelcase Media Scape modular workstation furniture throughout DAU’s campus over the last several years. DAU endeavors to maintain a common manufacturer for administrative areas where it makes sense to have a consistent warranty, service agreement, and professional aesthetic. We request that a common manufacturer be maintained so that the systems furniture can be efficiently reconfigured with current and additional purchased product to maintain the integrity of this investment.

In addition, it is essential to DAU, that it purchase the above described Steelcase Media Scape modular systems furniture items, since the furniture being purchased has to be able to fit with DAU existing Steelcase Modular Systems furniture. No other manufacturer’s systems furniture, will fit together with DAU’s existing Steelcase Media Scape Modular systems furniture.

Procurement or Selection of another manufacturer’s modular furniture would require DAU to re-design administrative workspaces as well as modify or adapter the modular systems if possible to fit existing modular furniture platforms which would be cost prohibited to the government.
