About this file

This document is internal correspondence from 2007 between Ronald Monroe, Unit Supervisor of the Baldwin Recreation Unit, and Paul Yauk regarding property ownership rights for the High Rollway Boat Access Site (BAS) in Newaygo County, Michigan. The correspondence seeks to clarify ownership documentation for several parcels of land, specifically referencing a 1958 lease agreement between Consumer's Power Company and the Department of Conservation for Parcel 89, which included rights of ingress and egress along a trail from Thornapple Road.

The document references a 1985 Memorandum to the Natural Resource Commission proposing the purchase of multiple parcels: 85, 89, and 90 as dedicated Water Access Site property, and parcels 50, 51, 52, and 70 as Public Access Site property. The primary concern expressed in the correspondence is the lack of deed documentation confirming the purchase and establishing clear ownership rights, particularly regarding passage across private property along the established trail. No financial terms or funding details are included in this correspondence.

Paul, I am trying to identify ownership and ownership rights of this access site. I have an abundance of information outlining the history of ownership, but not a complete package.

In the original lease (March 28, 1958) arrangement between Consumer's Power Company and the Dept.

of Conservation, we obtained lease privileges of what I believe is Parcel 89, together with the rights of ingress and egress along an established and identified trail leading from Thornapple Rd. to Parcel 89.

I also have on file a Memorandum to the Natural Resource Commission (March 21, 1985) proposing the purchase of Parcels 85, 89 and 90 as dedicated Water Access Site property, and 50, 51, 52 and 70 as Public Access Site property.

My file falls short in offering a deed or other document definitively outlining the purchase. Can you help locate the documentation needed to identify our ownership and access rights? My most current and dire concern is regarding passage across private property along the established trail.
