Answer

Every high school-credited course of the World (Foreign) Language

Program is aligned to the National Standards in Foreign Language

Education published by the American Council on the Teaching of

Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Therefore, all the DoDEA German courses are aligned to these language proficiency and performance standards.

Therefore, all instructional materials and resources intended for instructional use in the world language courses, including German IV and German V, must be aligned to the appropriate ACTFL National

Standards in Foreign Language Education.

Each world language course has the goal that a student should be able to demonstrate a particular language proficiency level in the target language (in this case, German). Therefore, each DoDEA world language course progressively builds language and content on the three modes of communication (interpersonal, interpretative and presentational) of the previous target language course to spiral overall language proficiency to higher levels.

FLG601: German IV (year-long) course is designed to teach students the three modes of communication: -interpersonal, interpretative, and presentational, which require development of the four basic language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Building on German III, emphasis is placed on an increase in application of communication skills, the further development of German language proficiency to a level goal of an intermediate mid language speaker, and the integration of German culture.

FLG602: German V (year-long) course is designed to teach students the three modes of communication: -interpersonal, interpretative, and presentational which require development of the four basic language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Building on German IV, emphasis is placed on the further development of communication skills, the development of German language proficiency to a level goal of an intermediate high language speaker, and the integration of

German culture.
