2.0 Background
Agency Overview and Mission
GSA is one of three central management agencies of the Federal Government. GSA provides workspace, products and services, technology, telecommunications, and management policy for the Federal Government. The administrative services under GSA's regulatory purview include the management of real and personal property, travel and transportation, motor vehicles and aircraft, and mail.
GSA's organization includes two major services, the Public Buildings Service (PBS) and the Federal Acquisition Service (FAS), and staff organizations that are all focused on GSA achieving a vision of “excellence in the business of government.” GSA provides these services through the coordinated efforts of eleven regional offices and its headquarters office in Washington, DC.
GSA's workforce is dispersed across the U.S. and abroad covering several hundred geographic locations. Our mission is diverse and so are our occupations. Like many other Federal agencies, we are facing an aging workforce and an environment where our skill needs are changing.
GSA’s mission is to deliver the best value in real estate, acquisition, and technology services to government and the American people.
GSA’s human capital strategy focuses on improving talent acquisition, development and performance management. Workforce planning supports GSA in closing current and emerging skill and competency gaps in mission critical occupations, thus ensuring mission accomplishment.
GSA seeks to establish agency-wide workforce planning and the development of integrated workforce plans that support the implementation of GSA’s strategic and annual performance plan. Workforce planning also supports GSA delivering of a Mission Ready Workforce and ensures GSA’s compliance with the Government Performance and Results Modernization Act (GPRA-MA) which requires integrated workforce management to support agency mission accomplishment.
