About this file
This notice of intent and statement of work document details requirements for three nuclear magnetic resonance gradient amplifiers. The National Institute of Standards and Technology Physical Measurement Laboratory requires the amplifiers to enhance diffusion and imaging experiments on an existing NMR spectroscopy system. Interested parties must demonstrate their ability to provide amplifiers capable of +/- 200V DC, 100A current output to match a gradient coil set under development. Responses were due by January 31, 2024, and the sole source award is estimated to be issued to Tecmag, Inc. by that date, as they are the original equipment manufacturer of the existing NMR console and best able to ensure functionality. The justification provided is that only Tecmag can properly integrate the new amplifiers into the customized experimental setup to avoid hindering NIST's ability to conduct experiments involving diffusion and imaging.

TITLE: NMR Gradient Amplifiers Requesting Lab/Division/Group: Physical Measurement Laboratory, 686.08
General Statement of Need The Magnetic Imaging Group has an existing nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy system (Tecmag Redstone) and requires that gradient amplifiers be added to the system to allow for diffusion and imaging experiments to be conducted. These amplifiers are to accept signals from the NMR console as well as match parameters of a gradient coil system that is in development.
Background Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging require precise control of gradient pulses as generated by gradient amplifiers. Initial signals are produced by the NMR console (Tecmag Redsonte) and amplified into wire coils to produce precision defined magnetic fields. These magnetic fields can encode position as well as dynamic parameters such as flow. The existing NMR console does not have gradient amplifiers matched to the needs of the gradient coils in development and therefore new units are needed. These new gradient amplifiers will provide the NMR system in the Magnetic Imaging Group with capabilities it needs to maintain world class measurements for the medical imaging community and to ensure operability for future work.
Objective(s) This project is designed to acquire three NMR gradient amplifiers for a existing NMR system.
These amplifiers should match the inputs to a gradient coil set (100A output, +/- 200V DC) and will enhance the work of our group to the NIST mission of providing quantitative and precise measurements for medical imaging.
Scope/General Requirements In acquiring three NMR gradient amplifiers the Magnetic Imaging Group will enhance the capabilities of services provided to the medical imaging community. These amplifiers will expand the available gradient strength and gradient linearity for measurements provided by the Magnetic Imaging Group as well as provide reduced uncertainties in the measurements.
