About this file

This is a Request for Proposal (RFP) issued by the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) on behalf of a consortium of school districts in Michigan for food service produce procurement. The RFP seeks competitive proposals from qualified vendors to supply locally sourced, fresh produce for school nutrition programs from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, with the option to renew for up to four additional annual extensions. The bid is scheduled to be opened on May 30, 2025 at 2:15 PM EDT, with bid documents available starting May 9, 2025. Participating districts include Fenton Area, Linden Community, Owosso Public, Brandon, Flushing Community, Goodrich Area, Durand Area, Birch Run Area, Bentley Community, Montrose Community, Lake Fenton, Stockbridge Community, Powers High School, Imlay City, and several others.

The RFP emphasizes local and domestic produce sourcing, with a "Buy American" requirement mandating that products be domestically produced when possible. Pricing will remain firm for the initial contract period, with potential price increases limited to the Consumer Price Index for Urban Consumers – Food Away from Home annualized rate or a flat 3%, whichever is less. Vendors must provide detailed pricing information on a comprehensive spreadsheet covering individual, bulk processed, and whole fresh produce categories. The evaluation will consider multiple factors beyond price, including reliability, delivery schedule, quality, ability to hold product pricing, vendor experience, and specifications, with a 100-point scoring system. Additional requirements include web-based order entry, product velocity reporting, allergen information compliance, and detailed invoice requirements specifying farm and county of origin.
