PERFORMANCE-BASED WORK STATEMENT
Fume Hood Exhaust Fan Installation
I. GENERAL INFORMATION
A. Introduction Our mission statement at the USGS Southeast Ecological Science Center (SESC) is to provide USGS science to Florida, the Southeastern States, the U.S. Caribbean, and elsewhere in the world. We are also leaders in seeking new and innovative ways to meet the critical need for sound, objective scientific information that can be applied to issues of local to international concern.
B. Background The Main Research and Development building was constructed in 1985 and has ten research laboratories encompassing 3,200 SF. Recently 3 of the existing fume hoods were removed and replaced. When the project was complete, during the testing of the installed fume hoods it was discovered that these particular hoods required an additional inline exhaust fans. During initial research into the correct fume hoods nothing was found that indicated an additional fan would be needed. Neither the manufacture of the hoods nor the fume hood installer realized the need for an additional fan until troubleshooting the hoods. Therefore in order for the hoods to be completed and usable a secondary blower fan will need to be installed. Currently we are not able to work in these labs until the fume hoods are completed and tested for safety.
C. Scope The purpose of this requirement is to install 3 inline exhaust fans into existing new acid resistant exhaust pipes including all necessary support brackets, electrical connections, and fume hood connections. These exhaust fans are described below.
II. WORK REQUIREMENTS
A. Technical Requirements for new inline exhaust fans.
1. It is mandatory that the fans are acid resistant, and be inline fans. Exhaust fans must provide enough exhaust air flow (CFM) to provide 100% negative air with in the Fume hoods, meaning that all of the air with in the fume hood shall be completely exhausted out through the existing exhaust ductwork to the exterior of the building. All seams and connections from the exhaust fans shall be completely sealed to provide a leak free seal, so that 100% of the exhaust air is exhausted outside.
2. Provide and install (2) two in line fans on the (2) two 48” hoods exhaust duct. (1) fan per fume hood.
a) Polypropylene Construction on all parts in contact with airstream.
b) 12.4” Slip Collar Inlet.
c) 12.4” Slip Collar Outlet.
d) Shaft Seal.
e) 1 ½ HP, 1800 RPM, 1-60-115/230V TEFC Motor.
f) PVC Butterfly Balancing Damper, w/ Manual Operator.
g) NEMA 3R Disconnect Switch Wired and Mounted to Blower.
h) Blowers are all assembled, Balanced and Tested prior to shipment.
i) Tested and rated in accordance with AMCA Std. 210 Air performance.
j) Provide and install electrical connection to the existing hoods.
k) Reconfigure the existing duct as needed to mount the new fan in the ceiling space and connect the exhaust fans to the exhaust duct.
l) Exhaust fan shall be mounted on spring supports to prevent any vibration and or sound continuation.
3. Provide and install (1) one in line fans on the (1) one 96” hood exhaust duct.
a) 12.4” Slip Collar Inlet.
b) 12.4” Slip Collar Outlet.
c) Shaft Seal.
d) Belt Guard.
e) V-Belt Drive
f) 2 HP, 1800 RPM, 1-60-115/230V TEFC Motor.
g) PVC Butterfly Balancing Damper, w/ Manual Operator.
h) NEMA 3R Disconnect Switch Wired and Mounted to Blower.
i) Blowers are all assembled, Balanced and Tested prior to shipment.
j) Tested and rated in accordance with AMCA Std. 210 Air performance.
k) Provide and install electrical connection to the existing hoods.
l) Reconfigure the existing exhaust duct as needed to mount the new fan in the ceiling space and connect the exhaust fan to the exhaust duct.
m) Exhaust fan shall be mounted on spring supports to prevent any vibration and or sound continuation.
B. Technical Specs for existing fume hoods.
1. Two 48” and one 96” Vertical Laminar Airflow Fume Hoods intended for high acid and trace metal analysis are installed in the interior laboratory corridor. Each are individually ducted and discharged to building exterior.
2. All Existing new hoods are manufactured by NuAire INC. The 96” hood is a Model Number NU-156-824. The 48” hoods are both model numbers NU-156-424.
D. Criteria for acceptance of Product or Service:
1. Job acceptance will be based on completion of technical requirements stated in this document and all hoods must be fully functional and certified safe for use at job completion.
