About this file

This document is a specifications sheet for FY26 USAFA Physical Security Football Helmets procured for the United States Air Force Academy.

The helmets must meet NOCSAE certification for competitive football and current concussion-mitigation standards for collegiate-level play, with compatibility for Riddell-certified annual reconditioning processes. Structurally, helmets must incorporate multi-layer or flex-panel architecture capable of dispersing linear and rotational forces, with high-energy absorption padding that is replaceable and maintains integrity under repeated impacts. A secure, adjustable chinstrap system is required to maintain fit during high-velocity contact. The helmets must support customized fit through modular padding or scanning-based fit systems while maintaining stability during sprinting, cutting, and collision movements, with ventilation and moisture-management features for extended practice and game durations. Compatibility requirements include Riddell Axiom facemasks, optional visor systems, and team-issued communication or sensor systems, with all accessories maintaining NOCSAE compliance when installed. For durability and sustainment, helmets must support a 10-year service life with annual reconditioning, with all replaceable components (padding, facemasks, chinstraps, visors) remaining commercially available throughout the helmet's life. The shell and hardware must withstand high-frequency use typical of collegiate-level training cycles.
