About this file
This is a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the FY2025 Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) program issued by the USDA Forest Service for the Western States and Territories. The grant aims to assist at-risk local communities and Indian Tribes with wildfire planning and mitigation, with applications due by March 14, 2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
The program provides two types of funding: up to $250,000 for developing/updating Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP) with a 10% match requirement, and up to $10 million for implementing projects described in CWPPs less than 10 years old with a 25% match requirement. Total funding available is approximately $200 million. Priority is given to communities in areas with high/very high wildfire hazard potential, low-income communities, and those impacted by severe disasters within the past 10 years. Eligible applicants include local governments, Indian Tribes, nonprofits, state forestry agencies, and Alaska Native Corporations. Projects must be on non-federal lands or Trust lands and demonstrate alignment with the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy. Applications must be submitted through cwdg.forestrygrants.org and include detailed project descriptions, budgets, implementation plans, and documentation of eligibility criteria.
