MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD

SUBJECT: Bastogne Physical Fitness Sandbag Salient Characteristics

1. The following salient characteristics describe the minimum requirements for the purchase of physical fitness sandbags for the 1st Brigade Combat Team “Bastogne” of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) to maintain a high level of fitness and unit readiness for our next “Rendezvous with Destiny.”

Quantity: 5,000 sandbags

Length: 36 inches

Width: 13 inches

Material: 1000D MIL-SPEC Cordura brand nylon construction (must be water-resistant and machine washable).

Stitching: Reinforced, double-stitched along seams and webbed handle attachment points

Handles: Five (5) high-strength, two (2) inch black-webbing handles. The two (2) handles surrounding the circumference of the sandbag must be continuous and double-stitched

Opening: The top, opening-flap must be fully sealable using a roll-top construction with an interior plastic strip/band sandwiched between the closure flap webbing to ensure that the sand granules will not escape the flap closure. This closure flap is similar to a commercial “dry bag” and is rolled to reduce air and space, while securing content inside the bag. Additionally, the top opening-flap must have at least three (3) MIL-SPEC plastic buckles measuring no larger than one and one-quarter (1 ¼) inch by two (2) inches. Buckles must be either Black, OD Green, or Tan in color.

Secondary Buckles: Approximately 26 inches from the top opening flap, the sandbag must have at least three (3) MIL-SPEC plastic buckles measuring no larger than one and one-quarter (1 ¼) inch by two (2) inches to enable the Soldier the ability to reduce the total height/length for kettle-bell swings or farmer carries. Buckles must be either Black, OD Green, or Tan in color.

Weight Capability: Up to 75lbs. Sandbag must indicate approximate weights on a graduated scale printed on the exterior of the bag ranging from 10 – 70 pounds, in 10 pound increments. Must be accurate to within two (2) pounds, per graduated scale indicator.

Fitness Characteristics: Sandbag must be capable of sustaining prolonged swinging, throwing, and bag manipulation during the rigors of Soldiers fitness regimens without losing sand granules. Color: Army Green (Olive Drab) and/or Coyote 499 (Tan).

Filler Bag: No. No internal lining required.

Logo: “Bastogne” Logo screen-printed using Black color only.

Additional Features: 6 inch by 2 inch, hook-and-loop (Velcro) nametape strip

Terms and Conditions: A single (1) sandbag prototype must be delivered within 7-days of bid closure for product review and refinement. A minimum of 500 sandbags must be complete and shipped within the first 14-days of the contract agreement. All 5,000 sandbags must be complete and shipped within 30-days of contract agreement.
